  • Shaun Rogers of NY Giants robbed of $500,000 worth of jewelry in Miami

Giants defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was robbed of half a million dollars worth of jewelry this weekend while he slept through the early morning hours at a Miami Beach hotel, according to a report out of Miami.

The 34-year-old Rogers, who recently re-signed with the Giants for one year and just $1.005 million (including a salary of $940,000), was robbed after a night out clubbing with some friends, according to the CBS affiliate in Miami. Miami Beach Police told the station that Rogers and his group met a woman at Club Liv and brought her back to his room at the Fontainebleau Hotel around 7 a.m., when he put his jewelry in a safe in his room.

When Rogers awoke at 12:30 p.m., according to the report, the woman and the jewelry — straight out of the locked safe, apparently — were gone.

Rogers, the report said, could not open the safe on his own when he woke up so he summoned hotel security. They pried open the safe and confirmed his jewelry was missing.

According to CBS Miami, among the missing items were diamond earrings ($100,000), two watches ($160,000 total), a gold necklace and pendant ($50,000), gold bracelets ($60,000), and a diamond Cuban necklace and pendant ($70,000).

Rogers signed with the Giants in 2012, but spent all of last season on injured reserve due to a blood clot in his calf. The 6-4, 350-pound veteran re-signed with the Giants in early February, one day after they cut defensive tackle Chris Canty in a salary cap-related move.

Rogers has spent 12 years in the NFL, splitting time with the Lions, Browns and Saints.

In April, 2010, while with the Browns, Rogers was arrested on a felony gun charge when police said he carried a loaded, semiautomatic handgun in a carry-on bag into the Cleveland Airport. He reached a deal with prosecutors and charges were eventually dismissed, but the NFL fined him one game check — approximately $400,000 at the time — for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The Giants had no immediate comment on the Rogers robbery.

Sorry to say it but I find that hilarious...no sympathy for him whatsoever.

Maybe he'll be a little more cautious with his bling next time he brings home (or back to hotel) some strange. Or better yet, maybe he'll think twice about dropping half a million dollars on jewelry...not likely
