I wonder how far back this goes. I know Brett Favre and Mark Chumura used to get away with doing some "extra curricular activities" in downtown Appleton, but I never heard anything about Sharper.

      - Darren Sharper case spotlights sleep drug's dark side -

"Slipped into a drink, zolpidem or its brand-name version Ambien can render women unconscious, which is what authorities say is how a former NFL star raped four women.

In January 2012, Darren Sharper filed a worker's compensation claim in California that described several health problems he suffered during 14 seasons as a player in the NFL. Along with his knee, hamstring, shoulder and hip, he listed "head, sleep."

To help his sleep issues, the former NFL star had a prescription for Ambien, the brand-name version of zolpidem, a sedative used to treat insomnia. Sharper eventually became a frequent user, going through 70 pills in 65 days through mid-January of 2014, a prosecutor in Los Angeles said."...

Unofficial Adopt a Bronco in 2023 is Russell Wilson. He getting a lot of hate from "Bronco Fans". I am going to support him. He is our Qb1 for 2023,

"Losers assemble in little groups, and complain about the coaches and the players in other little groups, while winners assemble as a team." Bill Parcells

That's a very succinct, yet accurate description. I pray he never sees the light of day again. EVER!

            - Attorneys: Arizona judge denies motion that could have freed Darren Sharper from LA jail -

"A former NFL star finally got a day in court in Phoenix, even though he remained in a Los Angeles jail awaiting trial on charges that he drugged and sexually assaulted two women in southern California.

But Darren Sharper's attorneys did not get the outcome they sought in a brief hearing on Wednesday when Superior Court Judge Warren Granville determined that he did not have jurisdiction over Sharper as long as the former NFL star was in a California jail."...

Poor baby! Getting what this evil serial rapist deserves. Guess his money and perceived sense of power and entitlement aren't working anymore.

How do you like it Darren. You raped these women to gain a sense of power and control. You raped these women to dominate and humiliate.

How does it feel to now have someone else have power and control over you, you filthy pig. How does it feel to be dominated and humiliated. Get used to it. You're done.

Thanks Emily Diana for keeping abreast of this story. Really, really bothers me that this has been completely ignored by ESPN and NFL Network.

 Broncoslover115, you get a standing ovation! I tried to give you rep. points, but can't give you more right now. Thank you for saying what I've long felt toward Sharper and other scum that rape. Too many people think rape is about 'getting sex', when it is really about taking power and control from another person. Women, men, children, elderly, disabled persons have all been victimized by rape. It is not a pretty-against-pretty crime. It is an angry, violent crime... whether or not there are visual bruises and injuries; whether or not the crime is reported or a victim is given 'justice'. I hope someday the truths about rape are truly understood. Thank you for your part in helping that happen.

These women Sharper hurt will have this affect them in some way, the rest of their lives. That is nothing against them. That is what this crime does. (I know as a victim/survivor, myself). No matter the amount of time or 'healing' that passes, it shows up in various ways throughout your life. In my opinion, it is past time for Sharper's life to be negatively affected by his crimes. Here's hoping he never steps from behind locked bars again.

You also deserve a hand for continuing to follow this.

I don't know if you know this but I've been a rape crisis advocate and trainer and been in the field in one form or another since 1982. I'm also a survivor as well.

I'm glad to know that there are also others on this board who understand that rape is about power and control, the need to dominate and humiliate and not about sexual gratification. It was so great to read those comments in this thread, the Incognito thread and others.

We have a smart bunch of Bronco fans.

Can't help but wonder how many more there are. Those who aren't coming forward. Can't believe he got away with it for so long, either. I'm surprised I haven't seen one of those class action lawsuit commercials, "Have you ever blacked out while hanging with Darren Sharper?.." Honestly, this is really sad, but I wouldn't be surprised if his defense tried to work some kind of head trauma angle into the trial.

All this goes to show that it can be easy for us to sometimes allow ourselves to think we know these people, because of the exposure of modern sports media. Truth of the matter is that we have no idea who these people really are. All we know is what they present themselves as in front of the camera. Another thing I think can be taken away from this, is that is important for victims to be courageous and come forward. Someone who is willing to rape will probably do it again once they realize they can get away with it.

                      Great post

I'd like to emphasize a couple of points you made.

                      1) I would also bet there are more victims out there. Since he uses drugs that render them unconscious, they may not even be aware that they have been assaulted.

                      2) I would venture to say he's been doing this a long time. Many men who rape usually start this behavior in adolescence or early adulthood. Of course we don't know about Darren, but once he got away with it, he continued.

                      3) Rapists can be anyone. Most people want them to be the skeevy guy hiding in the bushes. Not so. That's why when someone turns out to be a rapist that we wouldn't expect, the community becomes shocked and we hear, he's a pillar of the community, he's a great guy, he gives to the church, or he's such a good looking guy who could get any woman he wants, he doesn't need to rape, blah, blah.

                      4) I would find the head trauma defense to be a difficult one here. These are well-planned, we'll-carried out rapes. They were not your typical anger rapist moves where he acted in a violent, uncontrolled manner. Having acted in the manner that he did, would contradict it being the result of rage and head trauma.

                      5) Victims coming forward is a courageous and brave thing to do. They will need a great deal of support because you know the defense is going to drag them through the mud and put them on trial, instead of him. I guarantee it. It's why victims can be reluctant to come forward. These woman are brave.

I might be frustrated, sad, even angry that the two networks aren't covering it, but I am not surprised by it at all.

I just did searches on their websites, to see if they are any different than the TV coverage.

NFL.com, 4 results re. the rape charges:

ESPN.com, approx. 15 results re. the rape charges:

I doubt NLF Network would want anything about his crimes reported at all, if they had their way; one of their football analysts, employee, a co-worker. For them to report on their chick maggot (whoops), "pick magnet" being an accused serial-rapist probably doesn't make them look good, in their eyes. Me, I think it disrespects their fans and viewers -- especially us women and any man that cares about our welfare -- by keeping silent and ignoring the story.

I was glad to at least see numerous links about the story on ESPN's site. Why they are keeping it off their programming, I don't know. Again, disrespectful in my opinion.

Yup, I completely agree. Remember when Von was going through all his suspension stuff and then it came out that he forgot to pay his parking ticket? I swear, they had it posted in that big red Breaking News Box and on their ticker across the bottom of the screen for days.

"Breaking News..Von Miller arrested for not paying a parking ticket. You would have thought he murdered someone.

                            This story....crickets.
