The walls are closing in. Hallelujah. He looks good in Orange. Get used to it because you're toast.

I'm so thrilled they found DNA evidence on some of the victims. I'm so happy they went to the ER and got a forensic exam. Sounds like things are coming together for them to receive justice.

The only problem with these cases is that they take a very long time and often, by the time they are adjudicated, the victim/survivor is ready to move on and a trial can often send her life back into a tail spin.

This creep needs to be locked up for life. How can any human being rape 10+ women in different states no less. What a twisted evil scumbag. I'm sorry but stuff like this pisses me off and I know this report been out for months.

        Quote - broncoslover115:

When you read the comments below these stories, people keep talking about his looks and wondering why such a good looking guy would need to do this.

I hope that someday all people will understand what rape is. And, I hope that people will understand that rapists can be anyone. Even a good looking guy like Sharper.

It's so frustrating that people don't get it. (End quote)

I too get frustrated and sad that, as you say, people don't get it. Reading the statements I posted here -- and others online -- helped me feel a bit better; it reminded me that some actually do understand. I can only imagine the things you hear in your work, that could easily leave you frustrated, sad and angry. Take care... and please keep up the good fight.

Sexual Assault Myths - Minnesota State University:

Myth: The primary motive for rape is impulsive sexual desire.

Fact: Studies show that the major motive for rape is power, not sex. Sex is used as a weapon to inflict pain, violence and humiliation. Most rapists appear to have normal personalities with an abnormal tendency to be aggressive and violent. Between 2/3 and 3/4 of sexual assaults are planned in advance.

The Violence Awareness and Response Program offers confidential advocacy, programming and education for victims/survivors of relationship abuse and sexual violence.

Rape Myths and Facts - West Virginia University:

Myth: When it comes to sex, men can be provoked to “a point of no return.”

Fact: Men are physically able to stop at any point during sexual activity. Rape is not an act of impulsive, uncontrollable passion; it is a premeditated act of violence. Research shows that 50% of rapes are planned.

List of Rape Myths - University of Minnesota:

        Myth: Rape is sex.

Fact: Rape is experienced by the victims as an act of violence. It is a life-threatening experience. One out of every eight adult women has been a victim of forcible rape. (National Victim Center and Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, 1992) While sexual attraction may be influential, power, control and anger are the primary motives. Most rapists have access to a sexual partner. Gratification comes from gaining power and control and discharging anger. This gratification is only temporary, so the rapist seeks another victim. (Sounds like Sharper, huh?!?)

Rape Myths - Women Against Violence Against Women:

Myth 8: Rape is a sexual act that is taken too far.

Reality: Rape is an act of violence.

Rape is an act of violence; it involves asserting control over another person and taking their power from them. Rapists use a person’s sexuality against their will as a weapon. Rapists are not men who cannot control their sexual desires; rape is most often a premeditated crime.

Myths About Rape - FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture - Baltimore MD:

Rape myth #5: Rape is about sex

Rape is not about sex. Rape is about control. Rape is not about horny and sex-crazed men who cannot handle themselves. It is about perpetrators who want control so much that they choose to violated and take the control of another person's body. Rapists are not “out of control” Rapists are in complete control. Rape is an exercise and demonstration of power. This is why rape is used as a weapon of war.

Dont think the DNA wil matter very much. From what I have read, he is claiming consentual sex with the woman. Now the sheer number of women claiming the same thing will probably do him in.

Usually women who have "consensual sex" don't go to the ER room and submit themselves to a horribly, intrusive forensic medical exam.

And you're absolutely correct that it's kind of hard to claim consent when you have so many claiming the same thing.

And in most states, consent cannot be given legally when the victim is drugged, intoxicated and unconscious. He's toast.

The man accused of raping two women, along with former Saints player Darren Sharper, went to criminal court this afternoon.

But Erik Nunez did not go in. His attorney did though, and attended a progress hearing in magistrate court. Afterward, the magistrate announced that there has been no disposition in the case, and Nunez would not be required to make a fourth appearance.

"Former Saints safety Darren Sharper, due back in a California court Friday for the next hearing in his rape case, will again seek his release on bond, a privilege that was revoked following a New Orleans arrest warrant and an Arizona indictment accusing him of drugging and sexually assaulting other women.

Sharper has remained in custody since Feb. 27. In Friday's edition of The New York Times, Juliet Macur took a look at the disparity between Sharper's public words in support of women's issues and the accusations that he is a serial rapist." ...

"Prosecutors here have turned over 10 compact discs of evidence in the Darren Sharper date-rape case after the former NFL star's attorneys this week accused them of withholding it from them.

Sharper and his attorneys appeared in court here Friday and were prepared to ask a judge to order the release of such evidence to them. But Judge Renee Korn said Friday the issue was moot after prosecutors provided the CDs Friday.

                            - Darren Sharper could be facing stiffer sentence in rape case

"Nine years in prison might not be enough for Darren Sharper.

After being accused of raping nine women in four states, the former NFL player last year agreed to resolve the allegations with a multi-state plea deal that included lifetime probation and nine years behind bars.

He even pleaded guilty or no contest to related charges in California, Nevada, Arizona and Louisiana.

But the deal was still subject to the approval of a federal judge, who has not signed off on it. Now the case is back on track for trial, though the reasons for it have not been specified.

"Recent developments have led to a resumption of plea negotiations and, prior to that, neither party expected Mr. Sharper to go to trial," attorneys for Sharper and the federal government stated in a joint court filing Wednesday. "The change in case posture, however, has now dictated that the defendant and the prosecution must now prepare for a more complex trial. This means that the government will, at this point, have to prepare over a dozen new witnesses from several other states to testify and, concomitantly, Mr. Sharper must prepare to defend against them."" ...
