  • Brandon Browner

    Panic mode, On.

    I'm gonna say this:

If the Patriots get Browner, we better get ourselves Sproles or Steve Smith and draft an impact WR in the first round. That secondary would become scary, even better than ours, we are gonna need more than Bubba and Ball to match with them.

Their offense is another story, but a Bellichick team with that kind of d? No thanks.

    Panic mode, off.

I'm guessing they are looking at Browner as a strong safety opposite McCourty? Revis, Dennard, Ryan, and Arrington should have the corner spots locked up, right? Browner would make a killer strong safety.

I'd like to see us steal him away. 2 physical corners would be nice to have.

That's what I am hoping for. Browner at SS would be a beast because he seemed to be losing his ability to cover receivers, but I would love to use him and play him man coverage on any tight end in the league. A combo of Browner and Collins would take Julius Thomas out of the game. It would also allow McCourty to do what he does best in the center fielder/single high role and just ball hawk. It would make for a secondary that is on par with Seattle's.

On par with Seattles....smh. In order for a secondary to be great they need to have chemistry as well as a good pass rush. On paper everything looks great but you really can't predict how they will play together on the field. That goes for the broncos secondary too

I said on par I never said better. Revis, McCourty, and Browner would be up there with Sherman, Thomas, and Chancellor.

So your saying that they would be as good as arguably the best secondary in the league? I just don't see it that way as it stand as right now but I could see how those guys have the potential to get there

                Ok.

Let's take out Sherm/Revis and call it a wash.

                Earl/Kam >>>>>>> McCourty/Browner.

Browner hasnt even played S before, and Kam is the best SS in football, this is not really compareable, at all.

If you said it's one of the best after Sea, sure but they are not in the same tier.

There's a reason Seattle's D is so good, it's because Earl Thomas covers so much ground and doesnt get beat over the top allowing Kam to do whatever.

Player A is McCourty, Player B is Earl Thomas. Almost identical across the board. They are pretty much equals as players. McCourty has just as much range as Thomas... 4.3 40

Also keep in mind, Thomas has had MUCH better talent surrounding him in the secondary his entire career.
If NE has a compareable secondary, why do they give up so many big plays?

Again, i watch both NE and Sea, McCourty and Thomas arent close to the same, this is not a debate at all.

NE's secondary with/without Revis or Browner is good but regardless they do not compare to the Hawks secondary.

McCourty has good range but its not on a Thomas/Byrd level at all.

You can say the first two pairs are equal if you want, but your theory still falls short once you compare the strong safeties. Browner isn't even in the same realm as Kam Chancellor when it comes to playing SS. And the chemistry he has with Thomas makes the gap even more wider.

Not close IMO. Even if NE lands Browner, Seattle's secondary is far better. I'd have to see Browner actually play SS at a high level before changing my mind on that.

It's the same thing people argued with Champ thinking he can just slide into safety and play like a Pro Bowler. It doesn't work like that.

I don't think Browner would have a problem with the switch to SS... he is better in coverage than Chancellor but might not provide as big of hits. He is still an incredibly solid tackler and has the same size as Kam. Corner to safety shifts happen all the time, the problem with Champ was that he was 35 years old and had lost a lot of his athleticism that made him so special.

I am saying their secondaries will be comparable if they get browner. not their defenses, seattle has a stronger defensive line.

McCourty is better than Byrd. Just doesn't have the same name recognition as Thomas because of the LOB and the high draft pick. McCourty wasn't even drafted to be a safety.

Also looking at their stats, McCourty generally has the edge (see more sacks, FF, and pass break ups). Factor in that PFF had McCourty graded out as the best safety in the league this past year and top 3 in 2012 he is up there with Earl Thomas.

Scheffty said Brandon Browner is in NE today and is currently in the building.
