Not sure if this was posted...

Had this argument after the Denver vs Seattle game with coworkers. Personal opinion, you have 60 minutes to win a game. Anything extra is just a gift. The classic argument is each team should get to touch the ball. Opinion again, you still can make a play on special teams or defense if you're the coin toss loser. The only thing I didn't like about the old style OT rules was the coin toss winner generally won. Kind of took the excitement out of it.

I'm not sure how to make a poll, but what would you like to see?

-Leave overtime the same, First TD wins and FG allows for offense to try and match or score a TD.

-Have overtime be 7-10 minute quarter and the play a full half.

-Not sure how college works, but college overtime rules.

-A totally different system, input please.

There is no debate ... it needs to be changed more than it already has

    Full 15 minutes of OT
each team has a chance to score (whether a FG or TD) and the other team has a chance to match that score -
    - team A wins the toss and drives down to score a TD, team B now has to drive down and score a TD
    - team A wins the toss and drive down to kick a FG, team B now has to match that FG ... OR score a TD for the WIN
    - team A wins the toss and get's stopped on their 1st possesion, team B now has to kick a FG or Score a TD for the WIN

This would go on until one team fails to match the other in scoring drives.

This method puts the game into the hands of the players more so that the hands of a coin toss.

I say leave the rules how they are if any change happens I rather it just go to an additional 15 minute period. That way you may end up with multiple drives by each or even 1 drive each if they end up like the Chiefs game where there are 10 minute drives. Because even if you go the the each team touches it once what happens if both score and than the team that got it first scores again. They got it twice the other team got it once.

I believe you should be able to stop a TD, but we didn't and lost. Defense gets paid and they played great yesterday and that drive was just a bad drive but it happens.

I have no issues with the new OT rules.

I wouldn't mind a NCAA style OT though

I do have an issue with the OT rules.

I believe it is just an attempt to milk more money from fans and sponsors by making it longer. There was nothing wrong with sudden death - first team to score wins.

Don't feel that's fair? Build up your defense to stop teams from scoring against you.
The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

I like that idea for the most part, also would add for more exciting games. Since there's an added pressure of matching scores. ario: This could give more of an advantage to the coin toss loser in a sense. If the coin toss winner doesn't sustain their drive and score a TD or FG. Team B has a good opportunity to win it.

So you agree with basketball style if they were to change it. Play a whole quarter and whoever has the most points wins..? If I understood that correctly.

Pretty much and that is only if they need to change it. I don't mind what we have now because it is fair since FG kickers are getting better so Fg shouldn't end it and your D should be able to stop a TD. But yes I agree with a full quarter and during the regular season a tie at the end of that would be a tie. Playoffs would keep adding quarters till they have a winner.

The only reason the rule was changed in the first place has NOTHING to do with football

They wanted to shorten the games. OT games were eating up broadcasting time which is big money.

I don't see what the big deal is if each gets a possession even if the initial gets a TD. We're talking what? 10m max? Unless their own advertising is eating up that time they hold so dear
The beatings will continue until morale improves....

I agree with that if they changed it anytime soon. Maybe a quarter that's shorter though, a 15 min quarter is pretty long. Maybe even regular season 7 1/2 - 10 minutes and playoffs/super bowl 15 minutes. I feel it would please everyone on the overtime and would be "fair". Even though I do feel it's extra time and you teams should be thankful it's more generous now.

I don't see how the new system shortens the game. It literally gives the other team a chance if they can hold there opponent to a FG.. Or are you saying they had it different before, where you could try and match with a TD?

The old system you literally drive down to the 35-30 yard line. Hope you kicker makes the 50 yd FG. Generally the coin toss winner won it.
