Elway demanded the pay cut, so yes it's his fault. Dumervil and Tamba Hali had similar deals at that time and they're comparable players. I would not have cut Dumervil. We could still have worked his deal after that deadline. We had the cap space and I'd rather have him on the team than play against him. Now we're worried about Dumervil going after our QB.

True, but it does help when you only come in on passing downs and fresh. Do you think Von can get that if he was a Full time pass rusher

      but he is looking good

Dumerville was scheduled to get 12M ... that was too high... he is mostly a pass rush specialist. Would love to have him but not at 12M. Ware has been solid for less.

the other thing to keep in mind is Dumervil was not playing at the level in Denver as he is in Baltimore now. It comes down to the fact that in Baltimore he is an OLB and in Denver he was a DE. When he had his monster seasons in denver he was a OLB. Dumervil is not anywhere as good as Ware at DE.

He can't even play all 3 downs. He's a pure pass rusher..... Thats it. He can't tackle running backs and is still awful in pass coverage.

Dumervil isn't worth $12 mill a year and that's what he was due to make. Then the Broncos offered him more money than the Ravens. Dumervil isn't a full time player. He only plays passing downs. Anybody that thinks $12 mill a year for a part=time specialist is worth it is delusional. Ware is the complete package.

Lol he really shouldn't be in pass coverage. If he is its only to confuse the QB/O-Line. not to really cover someone. Just like when we have Pot Roast in coverage

Watching this game tonight, he imo is a better pass rusher than Ware. The lack of a pass rush against quality opponents is simply mind-boggling with guys like Miller and Ware, leads me to believe that maybe they're not as good as advertised. I miss Elvis, just venting, we could use him right now!

but doom is a one trick pony all rush not run defense.

whereas Ware plays all portions of the game. and is less expensive than Doom wanted which was above the 9 mil mark for his first year. with it doing nothing but go up from there.

we got a better player for about the same money or less and someone that plays more snaps per game.

I'm of the belief that Denver actually made out better with Ware. Ware only has 10 sacks to Dumervil's 17; however, Ware is a better run stopper and, in the rare occasion it's called, he can drop into pass coverage as well (w/ twice as many passes deflected as Dumervil). Also, Ware costs $2 million less than Dumervil.

Finally, Dumervil's success can largely be attributed to the caliber of his teammates. Haloti Ngata and Suggs command so much attention that Dumervil often gets one-on-one matchups.

great post. could not have said it better. you might add that they also have a somewhat better LB core than we do at this moment

Ware is better all-around but Doom is a better pass rusher.

                              lets see

90 over 8 years for doom 11.25 ave 36 tackles per year. 13 pass defensed 20 FF

127 over 10 years for Ware. 12.7 ave yet 47.5 tackles per year. 24 passed defensed, 34 FF.

hey I'll take Ware any day considering he can actually play the run and is on the field for more than rushing the passer.

I don't understand why everyone is so doom and gloom about it. No pun intended.

It wouldn't be the first time this year we have faced a daunting pass rush and come out just fine.

Hali had 22 sacks which is more than Dumerville but the Chiefs had what 1 sack in two games combined against us?
