He might surprise some people. They wouldn't have hired him if he was bad, right?Administrator

Joining Charles Davis and Kevin Burkhardt in the Fox Booth. Surprised he left so quickly. I have been tough on the guy, after he chose to look elsewhere (from The Broncos), but truthfully, I wish him well. He is misunderstood in some ways, though he brought on a lot of what people did not like about him, as a QB.
It seems soon though, and it will always baffle some that his career was not more successful, with that rifle of an arm.
As I say, matters not.....Good Luck Jay!!

What I heard today from Stokley, Mike Lombardi and others is that Cutler has a personality and he cares about the game, he just did not show it in public. It's funny that he never cared about looking good for the media and now he's part of the sports media. Cutler is a very smart guy and I think we will be surprised with his true personality that he never revealed to the average fans. Actually, he's already revealed quite a bit recently, if you know what I mean.sigpic

I had an acquaintance/friend that knew him - her girlfriend was Jay's girlfriend at the time - when he was with the Broncos and Shanahan. She always spoke highly of him but did say he was always wrapped up and busy with football. I met him once, briefly. He seemed like a good guy.
Jay had an NFL and college career he can be personally proud of. Not many guys can make it as a prominent starter for a decade in the NFL, regardless of where they are picked in the draft. I'm sure he would of liked to have won more, including a SB ... who doesn't.sigpic

I'm just glad that a mediocre player's out of the NFL. Although he lived the American dream, be lazy, accomplish nothing, and make TONS of $. Now I can support the Bears, until they make their next stupid move"Happiness is just an illusion, filled with sadness and confusion." Jimmy Ruffin

He's definitely a Fox guy. I think he'll do well. I also think they got the better guy between he and Romo. Romo is a goody two shoes stiff, and you know Cutty is going to bring some flavor to the telecasts. For example: Quarterback drops back on 3rd and long. Throws the ball to a check down for five yards.
Romo: "You can see right here, the defense is showing cover three pre-snap. Quarterback took what he could, and made the smart play right there. It's too early in the game to take big shots like that."
Cutty: "Yeah, this guy is on roller skates right now. Should've chucked it to the X on a 9. Dude flinched and gave the defense what they wanted. Never surrender, bro. Never surrender."

Cutler's a bit of an enigma for me to evaluate because while I don't believe he was ever going to be a Manning or Rodgers-type player, at the very least he should have been in the same conversation as Rivers, Flacco, and Ryan. But it just never happened. It's unfortunate for the fans and the NFL because it's a quarterback-starved league and he definitely wasn't lacking talent. And in defense of him, regardless of whatever personality hang-ups there were (and there appeared to be plenty), the Broncos and Josh McDaniels in particular botched that whole transition to a spectacular degree. Once it became apparent that the only suitable option was going to be Kyle Orton, the Broncos should have done everything to kiss and make up, even if it would have been just for a couple of more years ultimately. It would have been interesting to see how his career would have played out had he been able to remain in Denver through that situation. And going to Chicago did him no favors regardless if he was a life-long Bears fan because that atrocious offensive line he played behind for many years likely destroyed any chance he had of a respectable career.
But I give him credit. He was an above-average player on a mediocre college team and he rode that marginal reputation to millions of dollars in the NFL. Fans can rag on the guy but at the end of the day the Broncos picked him that high and Chicago was willing to pay him ridiculous money for minimal results. All the mechanical and personality issues were well documented prior to him being drafted and when Chicago traded for him. Not saying that gives him a pass if he is indeed the jerk many have portrayed him to be but it's not like it was a secret to the Broncos or the Bears.sigpic

What has he accomplished in his career? 1 playoff win for a guy who was supposed to be the savior for 2 different franchises, and he has a 500 record because he has the mental IQ of a rookie. He also missed multiple seasons due to injuries and has had conflicts with teammates"Happiness is just an illusion, filled with sadness and confusion." Jimmy Ruffin
