Hey Gman, I had to look 'em up. Really strong team throughout, with 5 pro bowlers, 3 of whom were 1st team All Pro. Interesting to me that Andre Waters was by far the leading tackler, but not selected as an all star. And no one had more than 5 pics......which is partly due to the fact that the pass game has changed over the last 25 years. But yes, a well rounded D, with a nice group of big time players!

      Thanks, D!

Yeah, check out the 91 Eagles. They had a pretty remarkable defense. If only they had any offense, surely this team would’ve been in the record books. Their week 3 game against the Cowboys was something ridiculous – they sacked Aikman 11 times and shutout the Cowboys allowing 90 total yards of offense. Try to watch their “House of Pain” game against the Oilers…just brutal.

They were pretty stacked – their defensive line was loaded with pro bowlers: Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Clyde Simmons. Pro bowl CB Eric Allen, pro bowl LB Seth Joyner (who won SB XXXIII as a member of the Broncos :thumb, and coached by Buddy.

I’ll try to refresh this thread from time to time adding new teams. I’ll definitely do the `77 Broncos and look at the best of the Purple People Eaters. If anyone else wants to throw some teams in, that’s totally cool too!
      To infinity...and beyond.

Yes....I was thinking about The Orange Crush, with the likes of Gradishar and Wilson roaming most of the field, and The Purple People Eaters, who seemed to score almost every game, as I recall! Not sure if The Fearsome Foursome of The Rams were great overall as a D unit, but the guys upfront sure were! And of course those other Steel Curtain teams, who were menacing!!

Sounds great! For the Vikings I'd start at 1971 when Alan Page won league MVP and they allowed a league low 139 points. I checked the stats for all their "Purple People Eater" years and they also allowed a league low 133 in '69 but that was still the pre-merged AFL/NFL, but '71 looks to be the most dominant :thumb:
