Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

According to news sources, Vince McMahon is going to reboot XFL football when the NFL is not in season.
I like it! May even have better entertainment value than the -8% viewership from this season's NFL broadcasts.
Too bad Manziel can't play in it. He would be a great character for them.
But it sounds like they are trying to address character issues by not allowing players with a criminal record. It may just be a PR stunt right now and even if they relax that somewhat, making that an issue, however big or small, to start could allow them to avoid some of the problems the NFL has had with some of its players.
I'm leaning toward Sam's point of view on this - football year round! What's not to love.
Bigger picture - and no offense to our northern neighbors - but if this kicks off (pun intended) and gains momentum, it will be in a bigger market and therefore be attractive to players who may not make the cut for the NFL. Rather than being competition to the NFL, this has the possibility of being a farm system of sorts.
The NFL is in need of a developmental league, a farm system. College football does its own thing and doesn't develop players for the pro game. NFL Europe accomplished this and there were players from the USFL and XFL who went to the NFL. The CBA limits practice and PS players don't get enough reps or game experience to develop them. The Pacific Pro Football League is supposed to start this Summer. There is also supposed to be an NFL Developmental Spring League, but I haven't heard much about it.

I basically said this same sentiment yesterday. Except my only concern is that they'll also utilize a lot of spread and read options offenses suitable to their own league. Since there will be no direct tie to the NFL what do they care about further developing players to move on to the NFL?

I never thought the NFL Europe would achieve much as a farm system with the complications of visas for players should they get traded / cut / etc. It isn't impossible, just another layer of non-football related stuff that, when multiplied out by the potential of numerous players (assuming NFL Europe produced some good talent) from numerous countries, potentially under different immigration and work agreements and treaties, it could make a team think twice on a player. At least, that's the issue I would envision.
If we develop a farm system, as we need, it should be based in the US where most of the talent that doesn't make it to the NFL is already based.
A spring league would be great - anything really - so long as they use a pro-style offense and do not just continue college offenses.

It would be cool if they could somehow integrate NFL practice squads into this as well... (after regular season was over) allow those players to take the next step quicker.
I couldn’t be happier! I think this is an awesome idea, and truly hope that in addition to being a possible developmental league for the NFL, that it also effects positive change to the NFL. Perhaps fewer flags on negligible incidents, fewer game interruptions, and certainly the elimination of utilizing the league as a platform for political protests. Just football. Old school classic football, back in the carefree days when a catch was usually a catch.
The game play will be sub par compared to the NFL by a wide margin, but it will be better and may get even better in the long run.
I complain less about the NFL than most of you because I love the sport regardless, but there are some things that need dramatic improvement which I think the XFL will implement in their league.
As a wrestling fan who's watched Vince McMahon's WWF since 1983 (and preferred the NWA & WCW during those runs) I'm pretty sure I will love it one minute then hate it the next 3 minutes. If it's nothing like the WWF entertainment wise, I can see the XFL having a long shelf life, still second to the NFL, but only if the play on the field is good.
Read this comment yesterday (and I paraphrase), the way to truly make sure this is a disaster is by giving a team to Birmingham. No failure of a football league is complete without that token franchise in Birmingham.

There is a way around horrific game play, the XFL could simply say they'll take players right from high school or after 1 year of college. These players would still need to wait 2-3 years before going to the NFL, but it could lead to players choosing the XFL over the NCAA, because they'll get paid. It won't be a large number of players, but it's a way to get some exceptional players before the NFL rules dictate they're allowed in the league.
It could allow them to get stars into the league, that's what they'll need to sell it, star players.
