Probably. None of Belichick's assistants have been successful as NFL head coaches.

I have no problem with McD deciding to stay in NE but he left it FAR too late to retain any credibility, this was as bad as that Atlanta HC who left a note saying he was leaving and didn't have the steel to tell the players directly.

He has done some good things with NE but everyone knows Brady makes anyone look good, look at how badly the NE coaching tree has done once they leave NE and the comfort of having Brady making everyone look better then they are.

Josh had a chance in Denver to show he was a good coach and looked awful, then he had the chance with Indy and chose the easy option of returning to Brady.

I doubt many people have much respect for McD anymore

A source told ESPN's Dan Graziano that LaMonte was stunned Tuesday when McDaniels informed him that he would not accept the Colts job and instead would stay with the Patriots.

When McDaniels told him he was staying in New England, LaMonte replied that McDaniels was "committing professional suicide," according to the source.

This is how many of us saw it going down once he pulled the little switcheroo. But listen, based on some of the little games he and his fellow pats have played, this is certainly within his character. And here I thought he had upped his resume.

Word of advice....better not lose Brady, or the relationship with Belichick, because before you know it, he'll be out of work from The NFL. What he forgot was that some of the others in that organization play even more games.

Josh McDaniels' agent is terminating their relationship after McDaniels backed out on his agreement to become coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

I haven't read the book, but the Sports Illustrated website has a report on the matter largely drawn from the book. It's a fascinating read (link below).

I write with most distressful news. The men have been hoodwinked. The deserter McDaniels is on the lamb, likely headed toward New England, my best scouts report. Was this a ploy to merely spy? We shall never know. Irritating.

Having said that, the Colts have to take some responsibility in that they made the announcement before even having the contract signed. I get the feeling that Bill Belichick isn't going to be back after next season and Robert Kraft probably enticed Josh to turn down the offer based on that. Either way the Colts fans should be grateful because I really don't think much of McDaniels as a head coach.
    This is a good analysis,

But man- what a wild turn of events,

Josh McD is a real goon,

Professional suicide indeed, sometimes, all a man has in this world is his word...

To be fair, they may be happy for the move and might be successful but being that short sighted in his actions and their effect on others is not just rude but highly unethical.
Watching NFL Network, and as Charley Casserly puts it, McDaniels pursued the Indy job, and at the second meeting Indy's brass met with his family, to check off all the boxes. So this was driven by his own initiative, and The Colts were looking to make the family comfortable....and Charley puts it well, that now who will trust this guy outside NE. Probably matters not, but sure something devious about him, his QB and his boss, time and time again!

Boy if anything he has now made 2 cities dislike him more so than most coaches. If I'm his family, I never mention the relationship.

Haven't read the article but I can tell you there is NO excuse big enough to justify this. It's one thing to go back on your word to an organization. But having assistant coaches leave jobs to go with you then leave them out to dry is indefensible for COMFORT.
