  • Which Rookie QB Has The Best First Season?

    Lets review the draft:

Baker Mayfield (#1 Pick) - Cleveland Browns

Sam Darnold (#3) - New York Jets

John Allen (#7) - Buffalo Bills

Josh Rosen (#10) - Arizona Cardinals

Lamar Jackson (#32) - Baltimore Ravens

I see this as a pretty solid QB draft, but it is very hard to say if they will see starter action this coming season. Having said that, if they are not starters, failure to produce by the QBs on their respective teams could get them all involved in the game during this, their rookie season.

And I can be totally honest, I am not sure which one gets the first chance. Then again, first chance might not necessarily guarantee them the job for the entire season. Injuries on the other hand could help one or more of these guys, sooner than later. In fact, I would not be surprised to see Lamar Jackson, the #32 pick, make an impact, maybe the biggest. One just never knows how starters will perform, and when injury strikes.

So I still need to think a bit, before I make my guess....but here's a prediction that seems possible: that each one of these drafted players will be a starter at some point in their career. Not saying they will all be Hall of Famers, but that they will all start some games. In that regard, I think Darnold will be the best of the bunch, and Mayfield might be not far behind.

Whoa, looks like Tyrod Taylor might have hurt his wrist tonight. Maybe we have an answer already, as to who might be starting. Hope he's ok.

I'd say it's down to Mayfield and Darnold now. Todd Haley just threw the ball 4 times on 1st and goal from the 1 yard line, and Taylor screwed his wrist up.

I voted for Baker. He's starting right away (I believe), and he has the best weapons, if they don't keep getting suspended

OK....Tyrod is back. Still, Mayfield looks confident, and I can see this team following him.

Yeah, I'm starting to think they should start Baker anyway.

              Josh Allen!!!
Mayfield may get to start at some point, maybe even the start of the season but just like in a lot of games in college defenses will shut him down.

Allen made a couple throws in the last game that definitely got my attention.

This is why I thought about a thread for the rookie QBs....because there are at least a few that could have legit seasons. I believe most of it will come down to the opportunity that might lie ahead.

I have yet to watch extended play by any of the others, except for Mayfield, and a little from Jackson. And though I was not big on Baker in the draft, in terms of a top 5 pick, I have to say that he looks NFL ready in several ways. He has decent awareness, and has shown a strong arm. It is very early in his career, but from my stance, he has enough of the skills/mental attributes to have a real shot in this league.

I'd say Baker. I think he has all you need to succeed right out the gate. He has the offensive weapons, he's very poised, the locker room apparently is already feeling him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the Browns to an 8-9 win season. Especially if Gordon plays the entire season.

What's with Gordon.....such a talent. Wasting precious time, in his prime. I think it was Mayfield who marvelled at his talent. Why not make it happen this coming year? Why not fulfill his potential!

I'll tell you what, last night Cleveland's D looked good, and their running game had some strong moments. If Mayfield is for real, and players like Gordon show up to play, this team may finally be crossing the line....to become relevant again.

So may I ask, who was the "other", and why was he chosen. Just interested as I am sure some others might be.

Some people are already predicting the Browns to be the next dynasty because of Baker Mayfield.

CLE has a lot of talent, if they don't get suspended

BTW what is "the best season"? Is it TD's, yards, wins, what?
