  • Imagine Being A Packers Fan Last Night

You could see it in their faces. The pain of realizing that your HoFamer, potentially the best QB who ever played the game, went down and out, in game one.

Having had missed a big part of last season, The Packers (minus Rodgers) were a no show for the rest of the year. But here he was, The Man, back in full force....new record breaking contract in pocket.

But this night appeared to be about the other team, and that other super star, who too got a record setting contract. The Bears were taking it to Green Bay, even with Rodgers. And then the unthinkable....not only does he go down, but he looks to be in serious shape. This must be a bad knee injury, and you know what that usually translates to....season ending stuff.

And the look of the fans' faces told it all. The 'high' quickly became a low, and lower as Mack returned an errant pass to the end zone. This must be game, set, match......maybe season. All the excitement that built to this point, all the hopes for the season, and the bounce in the step for Pack fans, knowing that this could be another year of contention.

But here comes Rodgers with that look. Though even the announcers wonder if he should play another down in this game, given the dominance of The Bears, and the damage that another hit or two could cause. Could they even stop Mack with a double team???

So here we go.....Rodgers makes his intentions known. He's playing, and he's gonna be smart. Short and sweet passes. It sometimes makes me wonder why many team don't play that style right from the get go, and then use the deep ball once opposing Ds get a little too smart for themselves.

And it is working. But time is of the essence. Hmmm, is it even possible tonight, given the man is hobbling on one leg, and nothing tells me that The Bears will allow it. But they do, and he does. The 39 yarder to Allison, which is more of a 45-50 yard pass, tells me something, but not something new. That Rodgers can throw a dime, 50 yards, on one leg.

The Cobb TD is almost magical, if you are a fan, because it looked like it was staged....a short crisp pass turns into the parting of the sea, like it had to happen. Surely the fans had lost all concept of normalcy this night.....high expectations, no expectations, impossible recovery! The beer sales must have been off the charts. And I don't doubt that some of the little elderly grandmas, maybe great grandmas, had a shot of something strong this night!

The Green Bay D had settled in, motivated no doubt by their leader. But here they were, having to prevent The Bears from moving the ball far enough to kick a game winner. And on 4th down, it's done...the comeback is all but solidified. EXCEPT....a flag. For some crazy reason, the once MVP type - Clay Matthews, selfishly slammed into Trubisky, when there was absolutely no reward for doing so. It could cost Rodgers one of the most memorable games in football. Not because he threw 3 TD passes for the win, but because of how he did it. However this night was meant to be special, because this night The Packers D went on to prevent The Bears from making that first down, after 4 more tries. Meant to be. Why not.....we were treated to an incredible game by Khalil. And then we were once again treated by Mr. Rodgers.

So Packer fans....did your heart beat a little faster last night. Mine did.

I imagine that the Packer fans had a very emotional night. I'm sure they were very tired by the end of it. I would still be a little worried if I were a Packer fan. I would be waiting to hear what comes out about his injury after Rodgers gets it looked at this week.

How about the Bears fans. They haven't exactly had a good season in a while. Here they come out on opening day with their young qb and their new pass rusher and they put up a huge lead in Lambeau against the Pac on opening day. It just doesn't get any better than this. This might just be a great year, we can get behind this team.............and then they choke it away. I'm sure there were some very emotional fans on this side of the ball too.

I think both fan bases had multiple ups and downs.

I'll bet there was a lot of alcohol consumption by both fan bases.

And again...imagine seeing the game basically end in your favour, thanks to a late pic, only to have the refs screw up and call roughing the passer on a simple, legal hit!!!

And then watch as Vikes throw the win away....poor kicker. Lost his job.

That was a terrible call. Just terrible. It is as if the refs were trying to influence the outcome of the game by calls and non-calls. In college they pick up flags when they huddle and reason through the call and determine in hindsight the call was in error. In the NFL, they just blow many calls a game and then have some jackass commentate on television trying to sell the audience on why it was the right call when anyone with eyes can see it wasn't.

I may bump a thread I posted last year (I think it was), re: The NFL and how they have chosen to ref the game. Does "ref" equate to "ruin"???

What's worse is when they double down and try to ex[plain the call, rather than admit they are messing up a great game. I have other mixed emotions about that game. Because I like The Packers, sure I was angry. I even admitted early in the game that the refs called a bad one on The Vikes, for barely touching Rodgers. I can not have it both ways, and I absolutely side with "the right call" over my personal bias. But that TERRIBLE call basically took the win from GB.

Yes, various mixed emotions, because I did not want The Vikes to win the game, and give The Pack 0 points for their effort, BUT I did not feel too good for the kicker, who lost his job over it.

What I can not tolerate as a fan is believing that extra penalties of this sort make the game higher scoring, as if that means a good thing. Higher scoring must be performance related!

And what on earth do defenders think and do......do they try to relearn the game they grew up with, and basically turn into softies, in a game that demands toughness, athleticism and acute awareness??

Plus, I hate to think that we, as fans, will be pointing every time an opponent touches one of our players. We will stoop low if that's what this game has become.
