Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

When I read Butler's post, one word came to mind. Why?
They seem to want mobile QBs to back up Wilson. They have had some head scratches that have worked out for them. I'm guessing they are seeing if they can work their magic.
I guess for Paxton's own mental health/self-worth- I'm glad someone is giving him a chance to do something...
I agree. One can belittle people's careers and laugh at their failure, but unless a person is a real goof, I see it the way you do. Whether he will succeed is up to him. But I hope he redeems himself, and maybe he has learned from whatever he has done, or not done, to succeed.

But that's just it though, isn't it?
By all accounts, Paxton Lynch is a real goof. From early pre-draft interviews that had him staring at himself on tv and not answering questions in a satisfactory manner (great scouting there Elway), to staying up late to play xbox games and having a very nonchalant approach to putting in the required work to succeed at a professional level. He couldn't even beat out a seventh rounder. Simply put, he was lazy and figured physical talent alone would get him where he needed to be, which makes him not only lazy but a fool as well.
That to me is what constitutes being a real goof. It remains to be seen if he's changed and "grown up" but the odds are very much against him.

I admit, I have not followed him closely. I also mentioned "what he hasn't done" in my brief response. But even if he is guilty of all the above, there are and have been much worse in the league. He is guilty of some of his own demise, but that does not help me appreciate those who sit back in the bleachers and hope for him (and others like him) to fail. He is young. He is getting a 2nd chance. He will likely never be a starter, and may not even make the team. But I pull for those who get another shot, and make the most of it.
I know a lot of regular folks who were late bloomers, or did not make the grade until they matured. I was not a star, but I was one of them. I have ample evidence of young people making good of themselves after a poor start. And what's worse, those in the limelight are picked apart regularly, in full view. So again, whether he is deserving or not, I hope he steps it up, and I hope people back off.
And if he continues to display "goof" characteristics, he will have to live with it.
I was never a Paxton fan. Thought it was a terrible decision the second the draft was called. Makes sense though... he fits the mold. The Seahawks wouldn't have to dramatically change the offense if Wilson went down. The Broncos are infamously bad at developing QBs. Hopefully he can revive some semblance of a career.

I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you on him getting a second chance, just that I think up until now, he's very much been a "real goof". I'm glad he's getting a chance to redeem himself though, something we all deserve, but the problem is, he's just not a very good quarterback and lacks the mental aspect of quarterbacking to truly take it to the next level – even if he's a changed man in terms of his approach to the game and being an adult.
But like you said, maybe a viable backup? That's not too shabby either.

I get you. And I certainly have concerns about what I have read/heard about his effort. But we both agree.....second chances, especially for those who need maturing. Hey, I can give loads of examples of people later in life who haven't matured.
