  • NFL to add to the playoffs

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...g-this-season/

Each conference will get an additional team so only the 1 seed gets the bye

Haven't heard much about this. I guess it is still a proposal, pending the vote.

Extra team gets in on each side, so that would make two cities happy each year. Getting the lone bye will be a bigger bonus.

I like this, seems like every year there is a team that has a good record that gets snubbed because of the division system. At the very least it gives Denver a better shot at getting back to the playoffs

I don’t see how this won’t get added. More players get postseason pay, players on their bye would be getting paid now, and the nfl gets more revenue from the extra games.

The only drawback is now it’ll be more common to see .500 and sub .500 teams make it. Although personally I don’t think that’s always a bad thing.

Hate the 17 game schedule that this comes with

Seems ok to me. However, this would mean some teams will get an extra home game, and others an extra road game.

17 games plus extra playoff game = revenue = happy NFL

Will this give each team 2 bye weeks?

I am sure this means there will be an expansion team in London and we will be watching a Bronco game in the middle of the night.

                    Horrible idea.

Playoffs should be contracted not expanded.

9:30 ET I believe is when London games are typically played. So- 730 start MST. I'd imagine they wouldn't stray too far from that model

                        Booooooo.

Ditch a couple of preseason games and call it a day. I personally like where we're at with 16 regular season games, but yeah yeah... money talks.

I am unsure how the playoffs would work with an odd number of teams from each conference.

7 teams on each side. Only 1 gets the bye, leaving 6 playoff teams playing 3 games on weekend one. That would leave 1 bye and 3 winners to carry on, which would work.

I am a bit old school, and am fine with the current playoffs. But sure, as long as they do not expand further, and only 1 bye team, I'm cool. My belief is that less than 1/2 the teams should make the playoffs, so 14 of 32 works.

However....not into 17 regular season games. The home and away part alone is not wise. And they claim they are big on safety, but want to add games. As I mentioned earlier, The NFL is really the Nice (BIG) Revenue League.
