  • a Q for SD fans

    this is not smack........

i just wondered if any of you guys were annoyed at the chargers HC, QB coach or staff in general regarding the BREE's/RIVERS QB position.

alot of ppl now agree that the rivers pick was a waste a could of went to another position of need.

i have heard NFL fans, commentators and media sport writer say that NO ONE knew that BREE's was going to get hot like this, however, do any of you feel that the ppl who spent EVERY DAY with drew bree's should of realised the potential he had to get to pro bowl level?

no one knew bree's could turn around like he did, but should the HC/QB coach of had more faith and seen his potential?

I think the worst part is not making a move on either player this offseason. One or the other should have been traded when their values were high.

Do the Chargers really have Fans? I think they only show up if the team is winning. That's not the case with Lions or Bengals Fans, they always show up to the games.

Yeah man, you're gonna have to wait till the chargers win a game again before their fans (parasites?) show up again.

I like my defensive tackles like I like my women: well over 300 lbs.

But its not that easy. If you go 2-14, and have the WORST record in the NFL...despite what your coach/QB Coach say, you have almost the OBLIGATION to draft a position that is WORTHY of that kind of money. What other positions do you suppose can demand that kind of money on the NFL team?? They certainly already have a RB.

Not to mention. If you go 2-14.. the FIRST person that is to be blamed is the QB position. Doesn't matter.. unless the starting QB was down with injury the entire year... the press, the fans, and the draft position itself practially DEMANDS that you draft a QB with that 1st overall pick.

Why do you think there are so many teams that try desperatly to trade down and OUT of that top five spot? Because there are so VERY VERY few players that can justify spending that kind of money on. PLUS... that was the year that the next Manning was coming out of college. Considering the breed, and the success of both his father and his brother.. and coming off a 2-14 season, how do you NOT draft Eli Manning with the first overall pick?? There was no choice. Looking at the benefits that draft pick, and then trade, did for THIS years draft.... was excellent both years. Now, if Brees has another good year...they have the choice of trading away Drew, or..staying with Drew and trading away Rivers for ANOTHER high round pick.

I don't think the Chargers did anything WRONG by 'underestimating' Drew's ability. I think they made the only choice that they had.

But if you do that... you lose money and or moral to your team and fans. Not only that, which one do you trade away? The one you just traded Eli Manning for, or the one that finally had a good season? Who is the wisest choice to keep. The player that may have just had his ONE year...or the player that hasn't had ANY years? Keeping Drew then allows them to see if Drew is going to string two together. Since RIvers hasn't played any NFL, his value is still going to be high. Giving the kid the 1st round signing bonus, then trading him away isn't good for your salary cap situation. Trading away a pro-bowl QB isn't a good moral situation. How do you tell the rest of your team "Hey, I know we just won the AFC West for the first time in umpteen years... and Drew just went to the Pro-bowl...but this year we are going to start the season with our un-proven rookie QB." Thats a hard thing to sell to anyone.

I'm a big NCState fan so I prowl some of the SD fanboards and consensus seems to be that Rivers is their man of the future and Brees will likely play his 1-year franchise contract then go elsewhere.

Even though Brees had a career year, with the talent he's got around him now he's 1 bad game away from losing the starting job.

Rivers is a player....extremely, extremely smart on the field - a true field general. I really hate it that he went to an AFC West rival.

No not at all. The more you look into the contract that Rivers signed and the way Brees has developed I am glad that things have turned out the way that they have for this season. It might surprise you that I would not be surprised if Rivers and Brees are on the Chargers for more than just this year. Look at the contract that Rivers signed. We can afford to keep him. He and Drew will be going head to head for some time imo. If you want to learn more about it go to the Charger forum.
