    saints may move

    The Story:

WASHINGTON - The Washington Post reports the NFL will consider relocating the Saints to Los Angeles if New Orleans is unable to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

The newspaper cites three sources familiar with the league's deliberation on the matter.

The Saints have been based in San Antonio since they were forced out of the Crescent City by the damaging August hurricane.

But the sources say the league has no interest in the Texas city as a permanent home for the club.

Los Angeles is the second-largest television market in the country and has been without an NFL team since the Raiders moved back to Oakland after the 1994 season.

I for one was a little aggitated with the San Antonio's claim they the Saints would be moved there permanently. I have nothing against SA but LA has been at the top of the list to receive a team.

It is sad that the NO fans would be so affected by this because many people from there have said that the Saints were there real hope of some stability after Katrina. I feel badly for their fans if they cannot recover from the hurricane. Seems unfair.

But I didn't see a time line here so I wonder how much time they are going to be given.

See, I have one major problem with that. You don't take the Saints of New Orleans, and make them the Los Angelis Saints. It's like the Jazz moving to Utah. Makes sense since Utah is known for it's pioneering jazz musicians in the early 1900's. DUH. They would have to rename the team, but the Saints organization has some history. Then again, the Oilers had some history, but that didn't stop anybody. I wounder what will happen with the Hornets, who just moved to NO.

actually it kind of would make sense. if they were to move then the Saints would play in the City of Angels, Los Angeles.

it would definitely suck for the people of N.O. but i'd welcome some football after not having any here for the last 10 years.

also the Jags could be leaving Jacksonville soon too. Jags VP Bill Prescott on moving the team, "it'll happen sooner rather than later..."

you would think the #2 market would attract prospective teams.

The saints move hardly comes as a surprise. They were talking about it before katrina, so its not like they are leaving city in limbo just because of katrina. And jacksonville, that is why i didnt think expansion was a good idea when they did it. Franchise is what 10 years old and talking about moving? Carolina wasnt bad but i didnt understand putting a new franchise in a state that already had the dolphins and bucs. If they were going to expand as they did, they shouldve put a team in another state that didnt already have multiple teams in the same sport.

            By hook or by crook....

The NFL wants LA more than LA wants the NFL. Ever since the Raiders and Rams left town, the rumor mill hasn't stopped turning w/all the names of teams that might move here. A couple of years ago it was the Saints, Colts, and/or Vikings. Last year, it's the Chargers. But you want to know why it never happens? We don't want to pay for these teams w/public $$. These owners have $$, but they don't want to spend any of it. They'd rather hold the city hostage through higher taxes. The people of LA aren't buying it. The NFL should let the Saints play in San Antonio.

I was surprised small market Jacksonville received a team to begin with...

The NFL wants LA more than LA wants the NFL.
If a winning football team can be put in L.A., theres no denying how much money making potential the #2 market has. I'm surprised nobody has stepped up to the plate yet...
You've got to know when to sack em...
