  • NY Giants Conspiracy Theory

Am I crazy or is there anyone else out there that sees the NFL openly favoring NY Giants to actually win something? 1) There was the whole New Orleans "away" game. Why didn't they play at a neutral site? (Funny how Miami didn't play at Kansas City when Wilma blew into town BTW.) 2) The mythification of Eli Manning. NFL is dead set on making him and Peyton the "face of the league" and neither has won anything. 3) Now with the death of Wellington Mara, sentimentalism will sink in, calls will go (more) in their favor...

The whole thing reminds me a lot of the Patriots winning their first Super Bowl after 9/11 (eg, "Tuck Rule", Patriots = Patriotism = anti-terrorists). Am I the only one who feels this way?

Ummm, I think you'll find that the affection towards Wellington Mara was because from all accounts, he was a really nice guy!
Having an owner who is so active in participation with the team seems to be a bit of a rarity, and he genuinely seemed to do so for the love of the game, and not because NFL teams are money-spinners (Can anyone say Glazer family?).
Ask any Manchester United fan what they think about owners who buy clubs for the money and not for the love of the game.

Yeah the NFL does seem to have a bit of a soft spot for the Mannings, but they are nice guys. Peyton has thrown more touchdowns in a single season than anyone else (beating the great Dan Marino, who never won a SuperBowl), and he is pretty active in charity.

Eli has a popular QB Dad and popular QB brother, so it's no wonder there are great things expected of him. And for a young gu, he's not doing too bad. The Giants are in a re-building phase, and like the Colts, they've decided to use a Manning to help them with that.

And as for the 9/11 thing, that was in New York, so why wasn't the push for the Jets and the Giants to be in the SuperBowl that year. Surely they needed it? That year the Pats were a great team, and they won fair and square. Every game gets dodgey calls, some teams more than others (can you say Raiders/Broncos), but it's not always a conspiracy.

I doubt there is any conspiracy going on.

The NO game was played in New York because there wasnt time to set up anything anywhere else. I understood Haslett's complaints though. It sure wasnt fair.

About the calls though, yeah, I think they were really bad, but every team gets calls their way once in a while, but that also works the other way too. What comes around goes around.........

In the end, it's the players who win and lose games, not the refs. NOT in the NFL!

The death of Mara may create some semtementality, but I really doubt that that will help that team at all. If the NFL started fixing games because of something like this, they would lose all credibility, and that would be the end of the leauge.

NOBODY is going to pay to watch fixed games!

As for the Pats winnig after 9/11, I would maybe buy into that a little bit more if one of the NY teams had won it that year, or the Skins. The Pats were a dynasty.

      Were!

Yes i think you are the only one that feels this way, NFL cant set stuff up to happen, they would get busted and messed up.
