  • Most Surprising firings?

My 2 most surprising was the firing of Mike MArtz and Mike Tice. Its not Tice's fault that Culpepper got hurt, it's not Martz's fault that he was very ill. This is bullcrap from my perspective. And tice still almost led them to the playoffs without Culpepper
    Go Broncos, Lakers, Angels!

I think it has to be the firing of Mike Sherman. This was his first losing season since he has been the head man there. Although, it doesn't come as a huge shock since the team has been in a steady decline since they gave up a 4th and 18 to the Eagles. Of the firings, this was one that I wouldn't have said was a sure things.

Haha, yeah, which makes it even worse. Thanks for the correction.

Neither of these firings were very surprising. The Vikings played better AFTER Culpepper got hurt. Tice had a lot of talent and did very little with it and he showed that he couldn't control his team very well. Sure you can't babysit all the time, but your the boss...get the credit when you do good, take the blame when you do bad.

Martz is an absolute putz! He wrecked the Rams quicker than I thought any coach could wreck a pro team. He may be a good offensive coordinator (that is up for debate), but he is not head coach material.

I was surprised to see Sherman go though. Still, he never impressed me much as a head coach.
Patriotic dissent is a luxury of those protected by better men than they.

I'm not realy suprised by any of the firings. Tice lost early this year, instead of late like he normaly does. I have more respect for him after this season, but he's not a great coach. The Viks need a great coach to contend for a title. Particularly with Culpepper at the helm. All I hear about is how great Daunte is. If he's so great, then how did he fail so miserably whereas Johnson thrived. I think if Tice would have gone with Johnson from day 1, he would still have a job.

Martz is a no brainer. He took Vermiels team to the SB, and lost (that team should have won 2 SB's). Since then, it's been gradual downhill. I'm not going to go into the numbers, but Faulk should have gotten the ball more. Jackson definetely should have gotten the ball more. I don't think he did a horrible job scheming his offense to it's strengths. I think he did a great job, but during the game and making adjustments he was bad.

Sherman did a solid job in GB. Bear in mind though, that he was set up w/ a great offense. He did what was expected but never overacheived. First 2 playoff losses in Lambough are unacceptable. That right there says a lot. The injurys killed them this season, so his firing was premature but not suprising. He should have been shown the door after losing those home playoff games.
