He played for us back in '03 I think when Foster was learning the system. He knows the system BUT he was never a particularly stellar player. Foster's better, if only marginally. But Salaam should make Foster scared of his place on the team. I hope.

      Foster

Foster couldnt protect against the pass that good is Salaam any better in pass protection against the elite pass rushers, ala Porter(Steelers)

Uh, that'd be a no. Foster's spot is the only real weak spot on the line though. Only problem is that there is no real successor there. I think we should pick up a couple of late round OTs because Lepsis is 32. Our line will stay the same for next year. But in a few years, who knows? There'll be much competition at guard between Hamilton, Myers and Kuper. And I know Shanny's pretty keen on all of them. But I still think we need to find some young Ts.

          I've never bought this.

I mean, our team has allowed the third fewest sacks in the league the last two years and last year had arguably the best running game.

I think the people are hard on Foster because we thought he was drafted to move over to the left tackle position. Maybe that's what the original plan was, but Lepsis has shown himself to be one of the league's best left tackles, so moving Foster over there just doesn't make sense.

Anyway, can somebody answer me why they think that Foster has done a poor job as our right tackle?? I just don't know if I agree with that assessment. It seems like he's done pretty well for us to me.

He's been far from stellar though. And the right side of our line is not as strong as the left tbh. But our line is, as a whole, a very good unit. But as I said, we need to groom some tackles because we only seem to draft core OL. But it seems management is very keen on the core linemen we've drafted in the last two seasons.

              I remember when Burguees
(Raiders) had 2 sacks on Foster,he had his way against Foster, and also Porter(Steelers) it really bothered me about Foster, also the penalties

Salaam will not return here, it was a bad divorce in the first place! Hahaha, a rumor with no basis... And the weakest link is the right guard, not right tackle! Watch the tapes, a lot of the time Foster had to take on Carlisle's scheme as well as his own, Carlisle looked like a confused school boy and missed a lot of major blocks and foster covered it. Why do you think we got guys who can play guard? Because we need guards not tackles... LOL... Good laugh though, thanks.

Carlisle was moved from T after Neil left I think which would explain why he's not so familiar with it. He's a decent backup though, but maybe Myers will be ready to step in this season.

                        Texans sign OT Salaam
                        Associated Press
                        5/1/2006

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans made another addition to their offensive line on Monday by signing free agent tackle Ephraim Salaam.

Houston drafted offensive tackles Eric Winston of Miami and Pittsburgh's Charles Spencer in the third round on Saturday in an attempt to improve a porous unit that has allowed David Carr to be sacked more than 200 times in the last four seasons.

Salaam spent the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he was relegated to backup duties in 2005 after starting 12 games in 2004. The 6-foot-7, 295-pound Salaam played in Denver for two season when new Houston coach Gary Kubiak was offensive coordinator there.

The eight-year NFL veteran spent his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

Terms of the deal were not released.

This is what I was thinking as well. I felt that the weak link was RG. Foster is doing fine, maybe not outstanding like some assumed he would, but he is more than adequate at RT.

This makes me think about Myers as well, but what about Pears? He has started seven straight games in the NFL Europe, and seems to be doing very well over there(albeit, the Europe league). Is there a chance he could become the starter for Denver this year?

Why all the hate on Foster?

He's one of our better all around linemen.
