  • Bush appealing league to wear number 5

I seriously hope he doesnt win. I really do like how wrs can wear 10-19 now, but at the same time, 1-9 should only be qbs and kicker/punters. If you allow bush to do it, you are making an exception for why? marketing? thats relaly fair to the rest of the league...

I just hope this doenst become a thing for money.... and if it isnt about the money then it really isnt an issue at all, players have had to change numbers around to fit the restrictions before, and 20-49 is pretty broad so Bush should be able to fit in there somehow.

I never have understood the logic in restricting the uniform numbers. Are NFL officials so dense that that have to have certain numbers so they can recognize who is playing what position? If referees in college can manage it, I would assume the highest caliber officials should be able to work around it.

Like restricting the end zone celebrations, etc. just another example of the league office exerting its power...

I say let anyone wear whatever number they want... Particularly as more and more numbers get retired by teams, something will have to give.

Funny, you're the one typing 'weh weh weh'. Not us.

However inane the rules are, I find it an act of immense hubris for a rookie to want things changed over a stupid thing like a number. If it so not important, than why is he petitioning in the first place? Why not just take whatever number is given to him and realize how privileged he is to be 21, play a game for a living, and aou tot be wealthy?

The NFL frowns upon retiring numbers for this very reason.

The rules regarding numbers are weird, but for a kid who hasn't even been in a camp yet to petition for a change is very presumptuous on his part.

The league is about to use Reggie Bush just as much as he is "Supposedly" trying to use them right now. It's the nature of the beast. Sydney Crosby, Lebron James. If it wasnt then it would be something. The NFL needs Reggie Bush just as much as he needs them and thats why they will allow him to wear that number. I dont see why we need to pretend like we dont understand what's going on.

I agree with your sentiments here - it does take some big ones to assume you are "special"...

My comments really relate to the bigger picture of why the NFL has these restrictions... just never bought the argument it is to "aid the officials"... it is all about control and showing who the boss is...

The NFL is a money cow right now. It does not need any single player. NHL was floundering...they needed the next Gretzky, NBA not floundering though nowhere near as popular as the NFL...but they still needed the next Jordan.

Remind me what this young man has done in the NFL so far? He is no different than any other player and should get no special considerations.

Hopefully he wins. Because I'd like to see LeCharles Bentley wear his 00.
The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

True enough... but if that is the case let's do away with numbers altogether and give them jerseys with "QB", "TE", RB, "DL" ... on them like at the combine. I guarantee they'll still blow the same number of calls...

He has already won. and sureely will take Deuce Mcallister's job. all Reggie has to do now is keep his behind out of trouble run for 1400 yards , catch a few passes, score ten touchdowns and ansser yes sir no mam and the league will proceed with his corronation. reggie Bush has been selected to be the new face of the NFL. Lets jsut face the facts. Brett Favre is old, Sean alexander has no personality, TO is the villan and Peyton Manning is a choker.

It is the most popular spectator sport league in North America, and second only to a few soccer teams in terms of income of TV ratings world wide.

How do they NEED 1 player?
