Lions | Rogers or Williams could be gone
    Fri, 12 May 2006 09:17:41 -0700

Tom Kowalski, of mLive.com, reports the Detroit Lions could part with either WR Charles Rogers or WR Mike Williams before the regular season.

Why dont we just trade Lelie For Rogers or Williams. Both of those guys could fit our system. Any thoughts?

    Yes yes yes and yes.

Martz would probably love a receiver with the tools that Ashley has. I'd actually prefer Charles Rogers because of his talent advantage, IMO...

I wouldn't mind either of them, but both haven't really panned out and I think the risk would be too high, whereas Lelie has shown he can produce.

...and are you forgetting about the risk of Lelie not even playing next year?

Isn't Rogers the one with all the drug and injury problems?

I wouldn't mind giving Mike Williams a shot. But I just find it hard to believe the Lions would give up on him already. He's only in his second year and was a top 10 overall pick. They should give the kid a chance.

Then again, we're talking about Matt Millen who was dumb enough to 3 straight top 10 picks on wide receivers.

Yes Rogers is the one with injury/motivation/drug problems. Mike Williams also has question marks, but he has enough potential to take a shot on.

If we dont trade Lelie soon, this situation will just fester until he eventually holds out or walks after this year and we wont get anything. Shanahan needs to have a face to face talk with Lelie so they can iron this out whether its trading Lelie or its Lelie handling his business.

Actually, I think we're kind of overflowing on receivers right now. We've got our starters in Rod and Javon, and we've got a lot of young prospects to vie for the backup jobs.

I'd prefer to trade Lelie for something that's more of a need like DT or good pass coverage safety.

Then again, I'd really like Lelie to swallow his pride, come back into the fold, and be the deep threat he's meant to be. We could have some great 3-receiver sets with Rod, Javon and Ashley.

I'm not forgetting, but I think we could address other needs, since as it stands I don't think WR is our biggest hole.(Javon, Rod, Marshall, 45 other potential WRs hah)

Either one of these guys would be a good #3.

We just drafted two rookies that could easily fill that spot. I think the reasoning behind trading for Williams or Rodgers(I don't want Rodgers at ALL) would be that they'd become the #2 along side Javon once Rod retired. I think we have enough potential on our team in the WR core right now.

I agree with you because if they trade Lelie I would like to see it go to another position, probably defense since all offseason has focused on offense thus far. I was just saying if they do make the trade I wouldn't mind it and they would be good #3's this year and yes probably work out as #2's in the future.
