Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Lelie would not be happy in Detroit either.................he would have to COMPETE with Roy Williams. ....................And that is unfair to Lelie.............he should be able to go somewhere and be the #1 guy whether his competion is better or not.
Martz would probably love a receiver with the tools that Ashley has. I'd actually prefer Charles Rogers because of his talent advantage, IMO...
Id rather have Williams myself. We could use him as a slot guy and play him against nickles. Rogers has had too many problems and a big salary (either way I think we would want to restructure)
Williams for Lelie though would be an awsome trade if it was just player-players. Lelie would also be a much better fit playing for Martz as he could be put into role that Holt had with St. Louis

Mike Williams was a ROOKIE, who hadn't played the year before! Then to be put in the NFL with the Lions no less. Mike Williams has all the talent to be a very, very good #2. He won't land in Denver though, we have our guy in Walker. I would love to roll out the red carpets for him, but it won't happen. We have enough talent in our corps to put three good receivers out there, with out Mike Williams. We do not run many 3 wr sets so to have a guy like Williams sit behing Smith and Walker, wouldn't pay in the cost/benefit thick of things.

williams would be less money next year as the #3 then Lelie is right now, and in a year or two when rod retires, we have our 2 WR in Javon and Williams. It would save money, get a motivated player with a better fit in a slot position, and get lelie to a place where his vertical abilities can be used.
Win, Win situation. Pull the trigger, lelie for williams.
i would go with williams in this because he has more height and seems like he would be able to go over the middle perfect in the slot and also i think he can be big last year he had a hang over from not playing the year before. its kinda funny how they r gunna dump him a year after being a top ten pick.
Actually, I think we're kind of overflowing on receivers right now. We've got our starters in Rod and Javon, and we've got a lot of young prospects to vie for the backup jobs.
I'd prefer to trade Lelie for something that's more of a need like DT or good pass coverage safety.
Then again, I'd really like Lelie to swallow his pride, come back into the fold, and be the deep threat he's meant to be. We could have some great 3-receiver sets with Rod, Javon and Ashley.
good post jav, couldn't agree more. . . . we're pretty much stocked at WR right now imo, i'm much more eager to see what brandon marshall can do than add any under-performing problem children. . . .
talent-schmalent, it doesn't mean jack if they don't wanna work for it. . . everyone in the NFL has talent, it isn't enough-- i'll take an undrafted free agent who wants to work his ass off (you all know who i'm talking about) over a blue chipper with his head up his butt. . . . charles rogers? it's not enough that he's fragile as a china doll, now he has drug problems and no motivation? no thanks. . . .
and what does it say about mike williams if detroit is willing to get rid of a top ten pick after one year?! besides, he's a coupla extra large pizzas away from being a TE, as i've said before-- again, i'll take my chances with brandon marshall, thanks. . . .
i'm also eager to see if mike heimerdinger can salvage watts or terrell-- remember, both eddie mac and rod smith have given dinger credit for making them into quality receivers. . . . and jav, i agree that i'd still love to see lelie come back and wreak havock against constant single coverage-- but it's seeming less likely all the time. . . . it said in PFW today that we're going to shop him before camp-- i'll see if i can find a link in a minute, i'm not sure if it's online or not. . . . in any case, if we can't get a solid player in return, i'd just as leave see us get a draft pick for next year-- i think we could surely replace the 4th we sent to atlanta, or even get a 3rd if a team needs WR help badly enough. . .
but honestly, there's nothing about the detroit organization that makes me want to acquire any of their players, unless they wanna send us shaun rodgers instead of charles. . . . i read that they had a lot of locker room problems last year, and i'd hate to se us mess with our chemistry-- look at seattle for a prime example of how chemistry can take you just as far as talent. . . . this team seemed to have a different attitude last year and it was reflected by our performance-- it's the reason most of the team was brought back. . . .
and on a side note-- for all those who have been whining so prodigiously about lelie-- have a look at these guys from detroit to see how bad it could be. . . . seriously, look up their stats!
EDIT: here's the clip from PFW:
Broncos could look to deal unhappy Lelie before camp begins
Denver
WR Ashley Lelie said he has no problem playing for Mike Shanahan, nor does he hold any grudges toward the team for trading for Javon Walker, his friend and workout partner in Arizona. It’s the desire to compete for a No. 1 spot elsewhere, as opposed to serving as Denver’s No. 3 option, that has him skipping out on the team’s offseason workout program and asking for a trade. Even if he were to return to the team, the Broncos figure there is no chance Lelie will stick around once his contract is up after this season. So, in an attempt to get something in return for a former first-round pick who has been targeted by critics for his inconsistency and lack of toughness, we’re told to expect the Broncos to shop him around in the weeks leading up to the start of training camp in late July, much as they did with CB Willie Middlebrooks, a former first-round bust who was shipped to San Francisco for DE John Engelberger last year.
lelie imo is way more valuable than middlebroken-- if we can't get a better player in trade than engelberger, i personally would much rather see us get a draft pick in return and take our chances with it next year. . . . .
I'm not forgetting, but I think we could address other needs, since as it stands I don't think WR is our biggest hole.(Javon, Rod, Marshall, 45 other potential WRs hah)
True, but I wouldn't mind planning for Rod's eventual departure. These two are elite, top 10 talents (Rogers was no. 2 overall).
From my standpoint, I don't like the idea of depending on two fourth round guys and David Terrell if Rod decides to retire after next year. There's virtually nothing on the FA market to speak of, but there are some options from the draft (Jason Hill) for next offseason.
I just like the idea of acquiring elite talent for a holdout (if that deal was even possible). I guess, at the moment, I'm subrscribing to the "if you lose one (Lelie) you should add one (Rogers or Williams).

Wow, I've only been saying that for the past month or so!
Some of you (not anyone in particular) zealots need to chill on all the "Ashley's afraid of competition" comments and such. It's best for all parties for a trade to happen. It would've been a wise idea to trade him even if Ash wasn't demanding a trade, IMO.

Mike Williams has some serious motivation and weight problems himself. At least Rogers has demonstrated talent before (when he was actually on the field).
And, if Denver is serious about Brandon Marshall as a WR prospect, then it wouldn't make much sense to have two oversized, possession types, IMO.
