  • Classless Eagles fan happy Bentley was injured

    Karma Sucks

Far be it from me to dance with glee at the misfortunes of another, but I must giggle with a smidge of satisfaction upon hearing the news that Cleveland Browns center LeCharles Bentley will miss the entire 2006 season with a torn patellar tendon.

    Karma… it’s a *****.

You may remember, just days before the start of the NFL free agency period, rumors began flying that the Eagles had reached a verbal aggreement with Bentley, who many viewed as the #1 free agent on the market.

It was a done deal. The best young center in the game would be a Philadelphia Eagle and anchor a brand new offensive line for years to come.

Unfortunately, that’s not how the story ended. Bentley decided to renege on his wink-and-nod deal with the Birds and instead signed a six-year, $36 million dollar contract (with $12.5 million of that cash guaranteed) with his home-town team, the Brownies.

Understandably, the Eagles’ front office was none too pleased, however, they couldn’t raise too much of a stink about it, because they had negotiated with Bentley’s people before potential deals were allowed to be discussed.

In other words, the Eagles tried to cheat the system a little (like every team does) and this time it bit them in the butt.

Fast forward to Wednesday, as Bentley fell to the ground during 11-on-11 drills at training camp in Berea, OH. Bentley’s knee buckled, and immediately, he knew it wasn’t good. Screaming, “No!” he fell to the turf and was taken away on a stretcher.

He is gone for the season.

And while Philadelphia fans have a reason to feel they are snake-bitten, I would argue that the only fans in America who have a right to feel worse are the tortured souls of Cleveland, who have not seen a championship of any kind since the Lyndon Johnson administration.

Not since the Browns beat the Baltimore Colts in 1964 has Cleveland hosted a parade. And think of the crushing blows they’ve had along the way…

…The Drive, The Fumble, Jose Mesa in ‘97, Michael Jordan’s shot over Craig Elo, Art Modell takes the Browns to Baltimore, the Tim Couch disaster… their futility not only matches that of Philadelphia, I believe it surpasses it.

Despite the fact Bentley’s injury happened to a city I can both identify and empathize with, I do feel a great deal of satisfaction that this back-stabber will now be spending his Sundays watching the Browns on his 75-inch plasma TV instead of suiting up at center.

LeCharles… you screwed us over. Karma sucks.

I’m going to get hit by a bus for writing this, aren’t I?

My response: Oh, he's been hit by a bus for writing it - seen this article on two Browns boards I'm on. I myself left him a comment - was civil. Basically let him know his name is, if it wasn't before, mud.

I'm not suprised. Eagles have some of the worst fans in the league if not the worst
