A few of those cut by the Browns have gone to Practice Squad.

Browns add OT Butler, DE Haye
    By Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
    September 3, 2006

The Browns made more roster moves Sunday, adding OT Kelly Butler and DE Jovan Haye via waivers and releasing NT J'Vonne Parker and OT Kirk Chambers.

The Browns also signed eight players to the practice squad and reached injury settlements with DB Shawn Mayer and LB Clifton Smith.

Butler started all 16 games at right tackle for the Lions last year. He started the first three preseason games there last month, but didn't start in the Lions' preseason and was waived Saturday.

Butler will likely back up Ryan Tucker at right tackle for the Browns; ironically, he was waived by Detroit after the Lions' new coaching staff decided to go with Tucker's brother, Rex, as the right tackle.

Chambers started two preseason games at right tackle for the Browns while Ryan Tucker recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery. Chambers, a sixth-round pick in 2004, played in 21 games as a backup over the last two seasons.

Haye was waived by Carolina Saturday. He played in two games as rookie last season.

Haye was an early entry to the 2005 NFL Draft out of Vanderbilt and was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round.

Parker spent time on the Browns' practice squad and active roster last season, playingi n four games.

The Browns also signed eight players to their practice squad; seven were with the Browns for at least part of training camp.

Those signed to the practice squad Sunday include CB Therrian Fontentot, CB Jereme Perry, RB Chris Barclay, OL Rob Smith, NT Babatunde Oshinowo, OL Andrew Hoffman and WR Kendrick Mosley. TE Buck Ortega is the only player who wasn't with the Browns during the preseason.

As part of the NFL International program, the Browns will have a ninth practice squad member this season - German DL Ulrich Winkler, who spent the entire preseason with the team.

I kinda thought Babatunde would maybe work as a 3-4 DE.

He wasn't big enough for a 3-4. Also, he had weak ankles and was getting beat at one on ones.

He'll probably be signed to Practice Squad where he'll be asked to put on some weight and work on his techniques.
