  • Brian Griese with he Dolphins

I feel verry sorry for Brian Griese. He replaced Elway, so obviously he got a lot of critcism. Nfl.com dsescribed him as having a 'mediocre career' at denver, despite putting up some good numbers. What do other pople think he is going to do at Miami? I think he has a good chance at dislodging Jay Fiedler form the starting lineup...

I think Brian will struggle in Miami also. Yes he was following Elway here, but he will be fighting against the ghost of his father in South Florida.

I never thought Brian was a geat QB, he showed flashes of greatness. But when he had his record year for QB rating, he did not start or play in all sixteen games. The broncos won more games in a row with Gus Frerotte than they did with Griese.

I think he wll be a good back-up in Miami, at least better than Lucas was. But Jay Fieder was having a great season before Denver roughed him up (heh heh)

While for nostalgia buffs it is great to have a Griese back in Florida. He won't come close to being the QB is dad was.

Needs to screw his head on right

Greise does not have exceptional athletic ability, so he needs to be the player that uses his brain to win games. Unfortuantely for the Broncos, he has not been able to remain consistently focused either on or off the field. He has the potential to be a great QB, but it seems like he lacks the drive & enthusiasm it will take for him to take the next step. Maybe the change of scenery will do him some good.

People always criticized Brian's arm strength (and after the shoulder injuries it could be reduced) but how many remember his first pass in his first start (coincidentally against Miami)? A good long bomb to eMac.
To me, Brian's shining moment in Denver was the 2000 game against the Rams. We were down by 15, with dome noise pouring down on us causing two consecutive false starts and backing us up near our own goal line with a third and long. It would have been very easy to pack it in and punt, but somehow Brian took charge of the situation, got the team focused and got the first down.
Unfortunately he seemed real reluctant to be in that leadership role. Maybe he can change, and find success.

Greise will always be decent but never great. I don't think he has what it takes to win a superbowl. He blows games all the time. Everyone throws interceptions, but Greise throws them at the worst times. He usually cracks under the pressure. Take last year vs the Jets for example. I also can't picture a great player like Elway tripping over his dog and spraining his ankle.

Hello everybody, this is my first post and I am happy to be here. From what I saw last year, Griese seemed to have checked out, mentally. I saw no passion or drive in his performance and zero leadership skills. He seemed dazed and confused and would rather be anywhere than being on the field as the QB of our beloved Broncos. I don't think going to Miami will solve his problems, because if you are not a leader, you are not a leader, no matter where you play.

I don't want to come off as bashing Griese, I'm not. I was a big supporter of his and gave him every benefit of the doubt. I just could not take him walking of the field with his head held down and sitting on the bench by himself anymore. I want fire. I want passion. I want someone who IS a leader. I believe with Mr. Plummer, that is exactly what we have.

                        I miss Griese

Brian did a great job in not making mistakes. he didn't lose the Ravens game we could not stop a tall tight end remember the kansas city game over 200 yards recieving by sharpe who threw him the ball. Gannon over 20 straight completions against the broncos defense I guess it was Griese's fault. Buerlein lost the indy and san diego games but i guess we will blame Griese for getting hit late in the pocket and getting his knee hurt. The Jet game why would Shanahan call a QB sneak and he knows the qb has a hurt knee real smart heh??
I think we will get hurt by Griese in the future and don't be shocked if he ends up a Raider in their Tailor made dink and doink pass offense. I didn't like the pick years ago but he is too smart to pass up the revenge factor if available he'll be really motivated to kick Mikes ass then. He is credible and comparing his and Plummers stats GRIESE kicks his ass in every category except for rushing yards and it is real close people. I hope snake does us well because if he doesn't then see you later Shanny it's been real.

But that's bearing in mind that Jake played with a crap offense. He didn't have many decent receivers to throw to when he was playing with the Cards. He also didn't have a decent running back to give him a rest so the pressure was alwways on him. Brian Griese had T.D., Orlandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis and H.G to hand off to. Also, Griese had some great receivers. Rod Smith, eMac, Dwayne Carswell, Desmond Clarke, Shannon Sharpe etc.
If Plummer had the been in Griese's place, his stats would probably be better.

I agree with you Muse but don't you feel a little bad about Griese being blamed for last year now Granted He could have done better but The Team didn't miss the playoffs because of Griese.

If you replace a great quarterback and are not as good or better than him, you will get a s***load of criticism. Brian did well in handling it, but moving on is a smart thing to do and although he is in competition with Jay Fiedler, he has a good chance of stealing the starter spot. however, he may still linger in the shadow of his father...
