  • Let's Talk All Things Pro Bowl

Here's our chance to talk about this exciting game coming up this Saturday.

I'll get the ball rolling and list a few Pro Bowl related facts that I pulled from Wikipedia for your reading enjoyment.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The game has been played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu since January 1980.

The first “Pro Bowl” was actually a postseason All-Star game between the league champion and a team of professional all-stars. It was played in January 1939 at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles.

After the AFL-NFL Merger of 1970, the name of the NFL's all-star game was changed to the "AFC-NFC Pro Bowl". Since the merger, the head coaches of the teams that lost in the AFC and NFC championship games have been selected as the coaches for the respective Pro Bowl squads.

Since the merger the AFC and NFC have split the series, each winning 18 games.

The Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns players have won 4 MVP awards, more than any other teams. The Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos (ha ha ha ), and Houston Texans have never had a player win an MVP award.

John Madden has never been part of a Pro Bowl broadcast due to his tremendous fear of flying.

This year’s game will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10 instead of the traditional Sunday due to the Grammy’s.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Who else would like to discuss this big game?

I see the only time a Pats player got the MVP (Ty Law), he had to share it with a Jets player (Keyshawn Johnson).

Other than that(and your pitiful attempt at smack), they're very interesting facts.

Thank you but let's be friends here. After all, this is the Pro Bowl we're talking about.

OK. The top cheerleaders from the AFC and NFC are selected to go to Hawaii as well. Here's the links that lists those lovely ladies

        AFC Chicks

        NFC Chicks

IMO, the top 4 hottest cheerleaders are Renee Herlocker - Broncos, Danielle O'Connell - Dolphins, Melanie Snare - Falcons and Kristen Beisel - 49ers.

and Renee is obviously the hottest of them all.

Anybody disagree with my top 4 or my designation of Renee as Top Chick?

Renee isn't a Broncos Cheerleader anymore - still pretty though

Holly Flaherty is representing the Broncos this year

I knew that about the old Pro Bowls. Originally it was made up of all stars. But then latter on, it was made up of unwanted players (players from FA). So, it wasn't much of a challenge.

I hope to catch a little bit, and that is only because Gene Hickerson is going to be introduced and everything. The HOF players are introduced in the Pro Bowl. So, I hope to see him and what he has to say.

But, I probably won't be able to catch it.

              Lots of work this weekend.

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

Bill Belichick and LT have spoken in Hawaii and everyting is now cool with them.

But everything is not cool between Shawn Merriman, Champ Bailey, Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney.

Apparantly Merriman is still miffed at the criticism he received for violating the substance abuse policy and is refusing to speak with reporters at The Pro Bowl.

After Tuesday's practice Merriman waved off reporters as he was walking off the field and promised to return later in the day but never did.

It should be interesting what Merriman has to say if/when he finally decides to talk.

What did the reporters say to him?

"How do you feel about the "Merriman rule" being implemented next season?"
"And we all know that stats don't mean anything if you don't have the wins to back them up"-ChampWJ

It's a good thing Jay Cutler was a proven winner in college. Oh wait, nevermind.

Anyone hear Bill Belichick "miked up" on the NFL Network today running the AFC practice?

BB was going over who should play special teams with his ST coach Brad Seely. Brad suggested using Marvin Harrison and Chad Johnson but BB said they won't block. Seely then suggested Larry Johnson and BB said that Larry wouldn't know how to block a player coming at him head on. Then Belichick told Seely to inform John Lynch to get ready.

It was great stuff. Who else is getting excited for this year's Pro Bowl?

It could be an interesting game. Belichick seems very serious about winning but he may throw in a few twists. He had Peyton throwing passes to Champ Bailey and Ocho playing D.

I doubt he will actually use Chad Johnson on defense but wouldn't be surprised to see Champ on a few receiving routes especially since Marvin is still injured from the SB and probably won't play.

This is getting very interesting folks. I'm glad everyone is as excited for the Pro Bowl as I am.

his new agent is advising him to not discuss it at all.

While Merriman had nothing to say, his teammates stuck by his side. Chargers fullback Lorenzo Neal also said he supports more stringent drug-testing -- and he thinks Merriman would agree.

"It's not Shawne that's in question," Neal said. "He shouldn't be slammed because of one bad mistake he made. He knows he was taking something he shouldn't have been taking, but it wasn't the way people are making it out to be. He didn't read the labels (on a legal supplement). He made his choice, he paid his dues, and I think people need to let it go now."

from a pats message board -

I just heard on Felger's show. Belichick was talking about punting in the Pro Bowl with Brad Seley. Seley says that it is the Pro Bowl and he hoped they weren't punting and Belichick responded:

"Well, we have Light blocking Peppers so..."
                            now that's funny

Yes, it was funny and I think it's great you're still allowed on the Patriots Message Boards. The cowardly mods at the Chargers message boards banned every Patriot fan right after the Pats/Chargers game because they were poor losers.
