    Rams sign CB Lenny Walls

Continuing to add depth to their secondary, the Rams have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with free-agent cornerback Lenny Walls.

Walls, 27, entered the league as an undrafted rookie out of Boston College in 2002. He spent most of his first four seasons with Denver, appearing in 43 games with 20 starts. He started all 16 games for the Broncos in 2003, but shoulder and groin injuries limited him to seven games in '04 and seven in '05.

Last season for Kansas City, Walls registered 29 tackles with five pass breakups, starting twice. Walls will compete for the No. 4 cornerback job in St. Louis along with recently signed Mike Rumph. Walls has very good size for a corner at 6-4, 192 pounds.

"We're trying to match up against those big guys in our division," coach Scott Linehan said Saturday. "We're like five inches shorter. It'd be nice to be able to look those guys in the eye."

With his height he is not able to turn and run with quick slot receivers. Therefore, he usually had to play on the outside in 3 WR sets last year pushing Patrick Surtain inside to the nickle.

It's a good thing Jay Cutler was a proven winner in college. Oh wait, nevermind.

I thought Walls was a promising player. Too bad he kept getting hurt, what a shame. And to think he really cost us two corners, Kelly Herndon and himself.

some just can't play safety, Lenny was just one of those guys that coudln't play safety very well. He's not a bad corner, but nothing special. He would make a good nickel or #4
