Rams acquire KR-WR Hall from Chiefs

ST. LOUIS (TICKER) -- The St. Louis Rams needed to part with just a fifth-round pick to acquire one of the NFL's most prolific kick returners.
Dante Hall, who has 11 career kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns, was traded by the Kansas City Chiefs to the Rams on Wednesday.
St. Louis had a glaring need for a returner who could also serve as a slot receiver. Now the Rams will not have to address that in this weekend's NFL draft.
"We have filled a need with one of the top players in football at his specialty, returning punts and kicks," Rams coach Scott Linehan said. "Dante will fit in nicely on our special teams and can be utilized as a receiver in certain situations."
With one more kick return for a touchdown, the 28-year-old Hall will tie Eric Metcalf for second all-time in the NFL. Brian Mitchell holds the record with 13 kick-return scores. Mitchell played 14 seasons and Metcalf 13. Hall has played just seven seasons with the Chiefs.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Hall has a career 24.0-yard average on 360 kickoff return returns and a 10.0-yard average on 188 punt returns.
However, Hall's numbers dipped last season with a 22.8-yard average on kicks and an 8.9-yard average on punts with zero touchdowns.
The 5-8 Hall has struggled as a slot receiver, catching just 26 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns last season. He caught a career-high 40 passes in 2003.
The Chiefs will receive the 148th overall selection in this weekend's draft.
