  • Does Atlanta go with Harrington?

Yes, another Vick thread. But I want wo know what people think Atlanta should do with the QB situaion.

It's been rumored that Harrington had excellent OTA's and looked very promising under Petrino, along with Vick.

    Consider the circumstances with Vick;

    - his trial will likely be during the season, which won't even be a distraction to him, but the entire organization.

    - It has been said that Vick will likely be suspended after his trial, reguardless of the outcome. Reports have already broke that it will happen reguardless.

    - If Vick is even found guilty, his playing days are over, either through long term jailtime or lifetime ban.

This couldn't have come at a worse time. Opening of training camp a couple weeks away and Vick will be diving into the middle of his trial, and likely won't even be around the practice facility on some days due to court hearings.

Does Atlanta go after Culpepper? Do they immediately integrate Harrington into the system now as a starter?

    discuss.....

On a different topic, I'm doing a 180 on Matt Schaub. I hope he has a Pro Bowl year in Houston this season.

I hope not. I'm a Harrington fan. But yea his past doesn't exactly give anyone a vote of confidence.

I wonder what Bobby Petrino is thining right now? Throw the season away and go after Brohm in the draft?

I agree with you about Atlanta not even being a .500 team with Vick.

Here's to me feeling asleep tonight and watching Joey ballgame lead them to a SuperBowl.

I don't see Culpepper signing with the Falcons aslong as Joey Harrington is there.

I think the Falcons are going to have to make Harrington the starter. They have no other choice I think. They have to just see how he does. If he does terrible then they have to draft a new quarterback. Unless Harrington does a great job this season then the Falcons will either draft someone (Brohm) next season or sign a free agent, probably drafting a quarterback in my opinion. Personally I think Harrington will struggle, he's never done much to prove otherwise on his previous teams.

Falcons over achieved because of Michael vick able to scramble.

Now you got harrington in the pocket with receivers that cant hold the ball.. Looks pretty bad for falcons

I don't want Harrington, Culpepper, or Brohm. Not one of them have close to the talent of Vick. Vick may be an idiot, but he is an amazing football player in my opinion. He'll probably either serve time or a suspension, and still be Atlanta's QB when he gets back. I hope so anyways. People will get over this once they realize how much worse the team is without him, and will probably welcome him back once time passes and the sting of this wears off.

The Ravens were more than happy to get Jamal and Ray Lewis back after their legal problems. The Titans and Bengals will probably welcome back PacMan and Henry, because they are talented players. If this was someone on the practice squad, they'd have already been released.

It's much too early to start speculating on what the Falcons will do, because from everything I've read, Vick is still going to play this season, and I think the Falcons know he is their best shot to win, so it's in their best interest to stick with him. In football, nothing matters but winning.

Thinking back to the games that Schaub started last year when Vick was hurt...I think a QB with some accuracy skills could do very well in Atlanta.

I imagine the team will do as Denver will do if Harrington starts. They'll rely heavily on the run and use Alge Crumpler and a lot of RB out of the backfield short throws to take the pressure off Harrington.

Harrington has never done well because all the teams he's been to have stunk in the past. It'll be interesting to see what happens with them this season

                    Well...true

I just looked up some stats...interesting stuff. This is for the 2006 season:

                    Joey Harrington Dolphins Record: 7-9
                    223/338 for 2236 yards, 57.6% completion %, 12TD/15INT, 15 sacks, 68.2 passer rating

                    Vick Atlanta Record 6-10
                    204/388 for 2474 yards. 52.6% completion, 20TD/13INT, 45 sacks, 75.7 passer rating

They seem pretty even statically...of course, Vick also ran for over 1000 yards last season...
But that kind of amazed me that Joey has a highed completion % than Vick. Vicks passer rating is higher...and the Dolphins did end up with a better record than Atlanta!

Then they'll just have to ramp up security and start ejecting people won't they?

                          Good post BroncFanIN.

As I said we are just going to have to wait and see. Harrington could do great or terrible. Personally I think he won't do so well because he never has done too well.

Harrington's best season (going by TD's/INT's + Comp%) was the 2004 season with Detroit.

                              Thanks Wookie!

I just saw on NFL.com that Nike is suspending releasing the "Vick Nike Shoe."

Nike suspends release of Vick signature shoe

                              NFL.com wire reports

ATLANTA (July 19, 2007) -- Michael Vick's legal troubles prompted Nike to suspend the release of its latest product line named after the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

Nike has told retailers it will not release a fifth signature shoe, the Air Zoom Vick V, this summer. Nike spokesman Dean Stoyer said the four shoe products and three shirts that currently bear Vick's name will remain in stores.

Vick will be arraigned next week in a Richmond, Va., federal courtroom on charges of sponsoring a gruesome dogfighting operation.

Stoyer said Nike still has a standing contract with Vick but declined to speculate on his future with the company.

A statement released by Nike Inc. said the company "is concerned by the serious and highly disturbing allegations made against Michael Vick, and we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent. We do believe that Michael Vick should be afforded the same due process as any citizen; therefore, we have not terminated our relationship.

Stoyer, who declined to discuss terms of Vick's contract, indicated the company has no commercials or documentaries planned with the three-time NFL Pro Bowl selection.

In years past, Nike has run footage and interviews with Vick on its Web site, but none of the video promotions are currently posted.

"Some of that was shown on a limited run based on rights and usage," Stoyer said. "There's nothing new planned."

Vick signed his current contract with Nike in 2001, the same year Atlanta chose him as the NFL's No. 1 overall draft pick. After leading the Falcons to the 2002 and '04 playoffs, Vick last year became the first quarterback in league history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
