The good news is the last Denver-Oakland matchup Al got to see was just like the old days: Lots of brawls and penalties.

Wow, that was sweet of him. I didn't know he did that. We should deluge Raiders HQ with orange and blue goodies.

Thanks for all the memories and being apart of what was easily the biggest rivalry in my life time, also thank you for help shaping the game to what it is today

Mr. Davis, although you were an arch rival you did a lot for the game and quite a bit for the Broncos. After all it was you who fired Shanahan and made him so mad he came here and beat the Raiders for over a decade and brought us 2 super bowls.

This is the only time I will do this, but I feel its truly deserved for an icon of the sport.

    Mr. Davis and R.I.P

Yes, rest in peace Al. And warmest wishes to the Davis family and Raider Nation. He was a good man who did a lot for the NFL as we know it. Who knows.. if not for Al, we might not have had a successful AFL that has lead to our Broncos as we know them.

    Al...

Some may think that "the Raiders will be better off when Al steps down or passes". Well, think of it this way. Davis loved the Raiders, and didn't want to give up on them. He tried his best to improve the team. Most people wouldn't be managing an NFL team at that age. Usually, they'd retire by then. But Al was different. He made them great once, and he wanted to do it again. He actually wasn't doing too bad these last 2 years. (Remember, I hate the Raiders, but this is true)

May Al Davis RIP. The NFL won't be the same without him.

Condolences to the Davis family and Raider Nation.

There is no doubt in my mind that the NFL is where it is today because of the Maverick.

    Godspeed.

Love him or hate him, we all have a lot to thank him for. NFL wouldn't be the " NFL " without his contribution. Thank you and R.I.P. Mr. Al Davis

Condolences to the Davis family and the Raiders organization. Mr. Davis contributed a lot to the AFC and the NFL, he was one of reasons I love my Broncos so much--He was the man you would love to hate if you were a Bronco fan. God Speed, Al.

Man...That's too bad I know he hasn't been in the best of health, but I sure wasn't expecting this. Up until this point, however, he appeared as sharp as a tack mentally (at least during interviews and such).

I used to hate the Raiders like all other Bronco fans. Now I only hate them twice a year, and if they make the playoffs and the Broncos don't, which will be the case this year in all likelihood, I will be rooting for them for two reasons. First of all, their history with the Broncos as a respected rival. Secondly, when "Barrel Man" died, Al Davis sent a silver and black bouquet of flowers to the funeral and personally signed the card. That one act softened me up on the Raiders organization and Al Davis. Barrel Man was honestly someone only we as Bronco Fans really thought something of, but Al Davis's act showed that he could see the bigger picture and put people over the team's rivalry. RIP Al Davis, football rebel and innovator.

The end of an era and the loss of a brilliant man. Al Davis was the face of the Raiders and thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and especially the entire Raider Nation.

Rip Al, I actually was hoping you'd live forever! Al Davis may have been the craziest person in the NFL but the NFL wouldn't be what it is now without him. Sad moment for football.

Anybody cracking jokes or saying bad things about Davis should be ashamed of themselves.
