Again, they're not paying Elway $30 million to sit at home. I'm not saying anyone here is right or wrong in their assessment of Elway. I'm just telling you unless he walks away he will be back in 2021.

Look, I'm not completely off the Lock train. I still think there's an opportunity to turn this around for Lock, although it's not heading in a good direction.

But if Lock continues down this path there's no way he's the default starter next season. I don't care who is or isn't available...

This thread will be merged or deleted in all likelihood. But I will just chime in to say I wish Drew was as consistent as Cutler was.

In fairness to Elway, he did pay Damarius Thomas and Von Miller, and neither of those resigns really panned out....

  • It's completely unfair to compare quarterback development from one to another. Josh Allen took 2 seasons to become much more polished. Baker Mayfield regressed substantially in his 2nd year. Manning threw 28 picks or whatever his rookie year. Elway lined up behind his guard.

    Again,...

  • Well, there are things you can say in fairness to Lock that are 100% true. The lack of off season preparation and preseason definitely has hurt his progression. The terrible offensive line is hindering his ability to look downfield. I think his shoulder is still hurt. And Pat Shurmur has been an...

Well, this isn't like the head coach or coordinator or quarterback. Elway has been the only consistent next to Joe Ellis for the past 10 seasons and this team has been spinning its wheels for the better part of 5 seasons. And it's not about absolutely having someone in line to replace him so much...

I get it. My buddy said during and after the game that they needed to fire Fangio. I said why? So Elway can hire another bad coach in his final year?

Nothing for this tream changes until 2022 and even then that's only if they have an owner in place....

Elway has one more year left on his contract and is due $30 million in 2021. They ain't firing him. Our best bet is he steps down but that seems just as improbable....

It should also be noted that part of the reason Scangarello was let go was because allegedly Fangio didn't think he was aggressive enough in terms of downfield throws....

They had a good coordinator based on a system that has been proven time-and-time again in the NFL last season and he was shown the door because Fangio didn't like him.

Listen, we can scapegoat coordinators, coaches, players, etc. until we're blue in the face. The buck stops with the head...

Not sure if it was in reference to this press conference or the one following the Chargers comeback but following the latter Lock essentially stated that the criticism against him and/or the offense was unfair because of the weird offseason and the injuries they've endured.

    Here's the deal...the...

I certainly have doubts as to whether Drew can be the franchise quarterback moving forward, but I think any definitive statement on him one way or the other is entirely premature.

This was a crazy offseason. In hindsight they shouldn't have fired Scangarello but that had to do more with...

  • Yeah, and Lock looked a lot better last season too. And Mayfield looked better in his first year than he did in his 2nd year. It took Allen a couple of years before he started becoming more consistent.

Young quarterbacks struggle. Burrow and Herbert will struggle too. Again, some...

  • I'm not one to coddle professional athletes. But I think it's wholly unfair to not give Lock a little bit of slack for some of these issues given the coordinator situation and the weird off-season. But to each their own....

I don't see them going 0-4 over the next 4 either. I suspect they'll figure out a way to eek out at least 2 wins, which will put them at at least 2-2 over the next 4 and 4-6 overall.

    After that, though??

New Orleans, at Kansas City, at Carolina, Buffalo, at LA Chargers, and...

Again, I don't disagree with not making any changes this year. A major reason why we are where we are is because we keep cycling players and coaches and coordinators. And again, unless you're going to show Elway the door first - which won't happen for financial reasons regardless of what our record...

Changing quarterbacks, coaches, and coordinators every year or at the first sign of trouble is what got us in here in the first place. I officially have serious doubts about Lock's long-term ability, and I wasn't a fan of either the Fangio hire or the firing of Scangarello and hiring of Pat Shurmur....

  • I don't think it has anything to do with film. I'm giving him SOME slack because this is his third offensive coordinator in as many years and we still only have about a 7 game sample size. He says the right things on paper and he appears to be wanting to learn. But I can't excuse the errant throws...

  • He's definitely regressed this year. His accuracy is especially problematic but he's not even really making good decisions. He's got 1 touchdown versus 4 picks. That's just not good enough. I'm trying to be patient but I need to see something that shows he can learn from his mistakes or be a regular...
