Technically, he's not a rookie, but essentially he is. He's played only 8.25 games. People here just want to (rather unfairly) judge him like he's had the benefit of time and experience from a full rookie season....

Darnold in his 3rd year, Trubisky in his 4th. Agreed on the rest....

He's a mobile, gun-slinging risk-taker like Plummer, who was an INT machine because of it, especially in AZ. Then he was in Shanahan's O six years later which utilized PAP well because it was set up by a balanced and effective running game.

Lock all by his lonesome, "is putting the...

What do legitimate reasons (harshly and unfairly written off as "excuses") "excuse" him from and to what 'authority'? Us? The Fans? Please. I'm not giving him anything, because I'm not in charge. I mean, fans here can bench him in their minds right now if they want to (some have)...

"True", please. Until Lock has finished 16 games he's a rookie too, in the way that actually matters.

"Almost". Did Herbert play in a void without the rest of the Chargers? Are Herbert (pick #6) and Lock (pick #42) supposed to be equal? Does every rookie...

What's "real soon"? Folks better temper their expectations and learn patience, or they can throw reactive tantrums on the I-Net. He's showing more of a Plummer than a cerebral pocket passer like Manning at this point. Osweiler was never in this situation, he was Manning's backup, finally...

Elway is not the coach. Gruden is an offensive minded HC who has built offenses. The point is people's expectations that Lock and this O were supposed to be ready to outduel the Chefs is completely far-fetched and their disappointment and negative judgement is completely unhinged....

You've been on Lock's sack pretty hard. Yesterday it was that he only throws to the right -until I linked you to all his other drive charts that indicate he spreads it around. C'mon man. He's not above criticism, but fault-finding to support a premature judgement is really just hating on the guy....

Ugh, compartmentalizing stats to skew the picture. He threw 28 picks in his first year, period. And the point is, he struggled as a rookie. That's a fact, and you're in denial of it, because you don't like Lock and you totally lack patience to complete the evaluation period for our rookie. Lock may...

That still doesn't remove their status as the defending the World Champions (nor the Niners as the defending NFC champs) and those teams are introduced as such at games. And the Chefs haven't lost any of their key players or potency in the offseason, they're still the best. Gruden has been rebuilding...

Good post, and even this factor doesn't always ensure success --after all, Peyton Manning had Marvin Harrison and Marshall Faulk in his rookie year and he still struggled and the Colts still went 3-13. It's a process and it requires patience....

Hard to say what everyone thought thirty years ago, and no I-Net, but Young did well as a backup that's true. No one knew he was going to be star --especially after Tampa cut him, and that's the whole point....

Well in 1989 I didn't feel that young Steve Young would rival what he actually became a few years later or be any kind of successor to Joe Montana. He just needed time and better situation, and it was impossible to foresee that working out....

New OC/new playbook and offense, no preseason to teethe it in, inconsistent running game because Lindsay out for a few games, OL still not fixed and hasn't gelled yet with regression from Risner, Cushenberry's rookies struggles, RT was and is still a liability, favorite target Sutton out, Fant out for...

Like Tampa Bay dumping Steve Young, then the Niners won a SB with him. That would be a nightmare....

These are rookie growing pains, or Lock's a bust, but we won't know until his trial period is up and that's not now. It's sheer arrogance to claim that one "KNOOOOOWS"! You don't know crap! There are plenty of successful QB who struggled in their first years: Fran Tarkenton, Terry Bradshaw,...

Flea flicker is not a bad play call, but how often does someone overthrow that!? As I said, everything went wrong that could.
