    Depth Chart Surprises

Well since the release of the chart, there are some players sitting on the top who werent really expected:

Bradlee Van Pelt is the official backup to Jake Plummer.

Stephen Alexander is No.1 TE over Jeb Putzier, which is quite a surprise.

Jerry Rice is the No.4 WR.

Darrent Williams and Domonique Foxworth are the 3rd and 4th CB's.

The rest is pretty much expected.

It looks like coaches are rewarding him on his play, rather then Kannell losing it. Hopefully he'll make the plays when his number is called. Plummers injury ruined our 2003 Season.

Putziers blocking needs improvement. Besides, I like the versatility of the offense when we go to 2 TE sets.

Jerry Rice is the No.4 WR

He'll make those clutch catches, whenever thrown to

Darrent Williams and Domonique Foxworth are the 3rd and 4th CB's

They have talent. Let them see the field.
You've got to know when to sack em...

Concerning Alexander, he's always been the best TE on the team wherever he has gone. It's not a surprise at all that he is the top tight end. His problem is that he gets injured every year just like Courtney Brown. For all his potential, he can't stay healthy, so Putzier will play the most snaps by the end of the season.

Jerry Rice is only a suprise to those who refused to believe that he was not brought in to take plays away from Watts. It was said from the beginning that he would be a no. 4 or 5 guy. Nobody said he'd be the slot guy, even he knew that.

Good point - if you don't block well, you don't play on this team - bottom line.

John Lynch at FS. I thought he would be moving back to SS

Mikey's failure to keep 3 QB's sealed our season, had Danny had more time in the system as a #3 QB behind beurline who knows if he would have been better prepared to come in a start when Jake and steve went down.

I personnally think he did a pretty good job considering he had just Training camp to learn the playbook and personnel. Then he was one of the final cuts. Only to be called back after Jake went down. He had a week or so before he was the starter.

Actually not EVERY year. Last year he played in all games (15 starts) for the Lions and racked up 41 receptions. He's really only been injured in 01' and 03'. So you cant really compare him to Courtney Brown who is injured almost every year.

                Stats:

                98' - 37 receptions for 383 yards (10.4 avg.) and 4 TD's in 15 games (5 starts)
                99' - 29 receptions for 324 yards (11.2 avg.) with 3 TD's in 15 games (15 starts)
00' - 47 receptions for 510 yards (10.9 avg.) with 2 TD's in 16 starts (Named to the Pro Bowl)
01' - 9 receptions for 85 yards. (5 Games) Hampered by leg injury.
02' - 45 receptions for 510 yards (11.3 avg.) with 1 TD in 14 games (14 starts) Missed 2 games with foot injury.
03' - Missed most of season. Placed on IR.
                04' - 41 receptions for 377 yards (9.2 avg.) with 1 TD. 16 games (15 starts)

2 years out of 7. I hardly call that injured every year.

41 receptions? That was like 4 good games for Shannon!!! We really need another TE/WR hybrid! Is the kid fast? Can he get down field on the naked bootleg?

I have read somewhere else that Alexander runs a 4.49 forty. Pretty fast for a TE

Here's my training camp surprise, read this article. Scroll way down, it says that with Mario's injury, Demetrin Veal is a second team tackle now. Wow!

I like my defensive tackles like I like my women: well over 300 lbs.

I for one am NOT suprised Alexander beat out Jeb for the #1 spot as of right Aug. 8th depth chart. Alexander is just as fast and capable of making a reception as Putzier, but the bonus for Alexander is his blocking ability. Funny thing is when I said it, alot of people on these boards thought I was crazy.

I think he's gonna be awesome while he's in the Mile High...thats why I adopted him

Actually, I didn't think you were crazy. I had the opinion that Alexander was going to give Putz quite a fight for the job. Alexander is actually faster than Putz. Fanatic's report of a 4.49 40 for Alexander is very real accoring to this chart. Notice Putz's speed is a 4.62. (Notice also Duke's 4.75, the slowest of all of them, except Hape.) That puts Alexander into the speed range of our linebackers, and faster than our sareties. This is why I knew better when people were saying Alexander is our blocker while Putz is our deep threat. Alexander, as it turns out, is both.

Wow, 4.49! Thats faster than our starting RB (MA - 4.58), and a few of our WR ( Charlie Adams - 4.50, Devoe-4.64, RICE-4.69) I was also surprised to see that N-Jax is slower than both Alexander and Puzier at 4.66.

Interesting, it either shows that Stephan Alexander is going to have a breakout year in our TE heavy offense, or that on the football field speed isn't everything. Take Devoe for instance on his 92 yrd TD reception on Saturday, he sure looked faster than 4.64!

Wow, i didnt realize how slow walls was. He is slower than our starting linebackers and all of our safeties except lynch. Wingspan only helps you so much...
