That will be a sad day. I still remember his first catch to win that game against the Redskins. I hope the organization keeps him around with some role, preferably a coach.

he turned it down because he was thinking he was gonna come back

Thinking he still might play, Smith turned down a chance to be the Broncos receivers coach in February.

Come back and coach for us Rod, stay a Bronco forever!

This is a day we all knew was coming but somehow, against all hope, we hoped would never actually happen. I've been a fan of this team since 1977 and Rod is, far and away, my alltime favorite Bronco.

So here's one more Mile High Salute to the best of the best

They need to find room for him somewhere! I can't imagin going to the games and him not being there, it was a comfort...childish maybe.... but I don't care, Rod is/was/always will be my favorite player!

If there was ever a former player who would make a good coach Rod Smith is it.

If he wants to retire and forget coaching.. that is fine by me.

The guy is inspirational to all football players.. but he has DESERVED the right to retire and enjoy his life peacefully off the gridiron.

I dont know why.... but this reminds me of this song

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
    Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
    He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

    Aw poop......

He's one of the players that I truly enjoyed and respected, he'll forever in my mind be one of the players who was the heart and soul of this team.

Rod Smith is what the hall of fame was created for, those special players that inspired and made others around them better.

Here's to you Rod, you will be missed but never forgotten. I hope you make life after football as entertaining as you did when you were playing.

Good luck and thank you for giving us the privilege of watching you play the game the way it was meant to be.
