They're two of the most tradition-rich and storied programs in college football, and they'll be meeting for the first time in nearly 30 years when Alabama and Texas clash in the BCS National Championship Game. It's also the first time since the 2005 classic between Texas and Southern California that two unbeaten teams have met for the BCS national title.

Alabama and Texas have racked up quite a few trophies during the past month. Both teams desperately want to add one more.

In a star-studded, powerhouse matchup of unbeaten teams, the top-ranked Crimson Tide and No. 2 Longhorns meet for the BCS championship at the Rose Bowl on Thursday night.

While fellow undefeated teams TCU, Cincinnati and Boise State may have felt slighted by being shut out of the title game, the BCS could not have delivered a more high-profile matchup. Coach Nick Saban's Tide feature Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and six first-team All-Americans, while Mack Brown's Longhorns rely on star quarterback Colt McCoy and an equally loaded roster.

I hope we draft Rolando McClain so bad. Terrence Mount Cody would also be good if he can pass the McD character/accountability test

I'm on the Bama wagon in this one.

My first big time team is OSU but rooting for the Buffalos in the Big 12 for so long and attending their games for so long, I hope Texas goes down.

Mark Ingram is their only offensive weapon, and he'll be going against arguably the best rushing defense in the country. When (not if) we shut him down, its gonna force McElroy to beat us, then the nations leading takeaway defense and scoring defense will have a field day!

This is of course, the way I hope it goes.

It will be a low scoring game with Texas either kicking a FG or hitting a TD pass as time expires. I also imagine we'll have some special teams points.

    Hooray, beer!

He is. I'll give that. He's never played a secondary like he's about to play. McElroy has not seen a pass rush like Texas' either.

i really like alabama's team, but every single time theres an overwhelming favorite in these bcs games with such a long layoff; the underdog always ends up winning.

Well, I won't call Alabama 5 over Texas 45 to claim anyone an overwhelming favorite. Trends are made to be broken, but...

The last team to field a Heisman winner in the NC that went out and won that game was in 2004, and the most recent time before 2004 was 1997 with Michigan.

Not to mention Texas is a more complete team than Alabama, with better coaching and team leadership from top to bottom.

As I said, it'll most likely be a low scoring game.

    Hooray, beer!

Bama does have one bit of history on their side. SEC teams are 5-0 in BCS National Championship games.

This is ridiculous though. If Bama wins that will make 4 straight SEC teams that have won the title. If Texas wins it'll have gone Texas, SEC team, SEC team, SEC team, and Texas as the last 5 winners.

We've got to get some other teams in that game.

The BCS tried like hell to give one to OU, but they just choked it away....again....

At least theyre consistent...sort of. Its pretty much either an SEC or Big 12 team in there every year. And then those two either play each other or they sprinkle in USC or Ohio State every once in a while.

That's why there needs to be a playoff or a plus-one system. It's pretty much assumed if you are in the Big 12 or SEC and you go undefeated through your season, you'll be in the NCG.

    Hooray, beer!
