I used to always try to avoid jury duty, but wound up serving on an attempted homicide trial. It really is fascinating being a part of a trial like that...watching how the attorneys work, and the chess match that the courtroom becomes. Drama with the witnesses, people crying, gory photos...it's definitely a life experience.
Deliberation is interesting too...seeing how other people view the same evidence from a completely different perspective, and squabbling/discussing until everyone is on the same page. Some jurors seem dead-set in their opinion and verdict, but eventually change their mind with the prospect of sitting in the deliberation room for several more days.
But, all things being equal, I'd probably rather be anywhere else...except maybe the dentist chair.

And yes it is a scheme problem.

The biggest court room I ever had to attend was "Small Claims", (in other words, not big) where I had to present my case as to getting compensation for a garage that was built incorrectly. I was nervous, but I used my best lawyer skills to win the "small" case. Felt good, but still had to get the money back on our own.
But it was nerve time, because unlike a jury, it is a lot of random people waiting for their cases. Would love to have a jury there, to appreciate the loss we incurred. And yes, because of all the prep I did to present our case. These folks were probably not listening, or could care less.
Funny thing, the person did not show up. But the good news, after we tried to get our money back with little success, he called me up one day and met me for coffee. He gave me "almost" every dollar, and I was ok with it. I thanked him, and wished him a good life. I didn't mind that guy, just needed to be better at what he was doing.

Yeah....I kind of felt like it was never going to happen, so when he called me and wanted to meet, I was wondering what he was up to. He was hard to find during the build and follow up process.
As for the total amount, he gave us the basic number, though he did not consider a slight addition I had asked for. Once I saw the repayment, I thought, "this ain't worth squabbling over another $100". Shook hands, wished each other well, and moved on.
I almost never give up on people.
