Self taught ..well to an extent.. I followed quite a few tutorials on basic photoshop effects etc..

Cuts is not my thing, so probably not the best person to answer that.. However even a bad cut can look decent if you blend it correctly..
i dont always use cuts either its quite easy to blur a background and focus on the player from a full image quite a few of my sigs are doing that way.

There is a couple of websites that fellow sig makers have listed on the forums where you can get pre cut images

    Hope this helps a little

    http://www.sportzin.com/cutgallery/

Theres a link to one of the sites i get some cuts from

there are several ways of cutting images...

My favorite is the magnetic lasso tool.

do it piece by piece, don't try to do the whole thing at once... do an eighth of it, then delete, then another, and so on..

if there are still blemishes i go back with the regular lasso tool and lasso it up..

or you can use the eraser which blows

or you can use the microphone thingy (i forget the name)

oh the magic wand tool. thats what it is...

Ok thanks to both of you.

Yeah the magic wand is what I have been using I can get some parts cut pretty well but others not so much usually shoes give me a hard time for whatever reason, lol. Also I have issues getting it perfect when there is just a really small part that still needs to be cut haha.

Ever try cutting with the Pen tool? I like to think my cuts come out great and this is what I use. You can get really meticulous as you make points around your image, then you just have to right-click it and make the selection one you complete the loop, then hit delete.

I will try that as well thanks.

I tried the magnetic lasso will have to play with that it's a little touchy.

if using the magnetic lasso and you need to do a small bit, just take the regular lasso and zoom in
