They could have had Viserion move his lurching, probing head over the wall where Jon was hiding so that Jon could thrust his sword up into Viserion's neck! Just like the slaying of Glaurung, father of dragons in Tolkien's Silmarillion by Turin who hid in a narrow ravine and waited til Glaurung slithered above him like so:

Maybe they thought that would be too tropey, but they had opportunities to make more cool scenes to thrill and satisfy us than they opted for, scenes as awesome as Jon's first duel with a White Walker at Hardhome!
    That would have been awesome!

Despite general consensus I enjoyed that episode.

Dany's bothered that everyone loves Jon Snow, and her coffee is getting cold.

That about sums up the whole episode --especially the coffee emoji. Who knew that Starbucks invaded Westeros and even had a store at Winterfell! This is the real threat they should all be fighting

I need to watch it again before I make a final rating, and write some kind of review, but my initial reaction is that it's the worst one in this season so far.

This all feels horribly rushed and disjointed. You can REALLY tell they aren't pulling from GRRM's writing anymore. It seems uninspired and very average. An unfitting end to what I often refer to as the greatest television show ever created.

It's moving at a pace like a movie, instead of the awesome slow boil that the earlier seasons had. I've accepted it but scenes like Sansa immediately telling Tyrion Jon's secret really lose their value. D&D talked about it like it was some cool calculated move, it took all of 5 minutes on screen for it to happen

You can see it all over reddit about people complaining about Rhaegal's death. I'm assuming those bolts way 100+ pounds, and for them to get launched that far into the sky and that accurately was nonsense.

They could have extended the show by establishing Euron Greyjoy better. No one likes him and he was terrifying in the books.

I'd say this episode was average and I feel I'm generous. I wish we could binge this because this is the type of episode that is somewhat forgettable, but you'd want to immediately watch the next one to see how they set it up and if it pays off.
You've got to know when to sack em...

Everything after the first half hour or so did feel smashed together. Lot of things didn't play out very well, but the one that really jumped out at me was Daenerys flying her dragons over King's Landing having first hand experience with their javelin weapon. I can find ways to justify the hidden Greyjoy Fleet, Jon not taking the dragon south, and the instantaneous way Missandei was captured. Little harder to flesh out Jon's decision to tell the psycho sisters about his lineage, though. I get his reasoning behind it, but he's been a little more clever than that for the most part.

It wasn't over KL... it was outside Dragonstone. They were unexpectedly ambushed.

Yeah, didn't even notice it until I saw an article about "The Battle at Dragonstone". I guess that's where you do the scout/reconnaissance thing. Or, they just didn't notice those big ass rocks you can hide a fleet behind.
