    Dirty Prank call

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...und/index.html

I think I'll get to a lot more of this in Monday's column, but I'd like to throw some empathy Mohamed Sanu's way. The Rutgers wide receiver was on the edge of his seat late in the first round, with the Bengals on the clock at No. 27, when his phone rang. The voice on the other end of the phone identified himself as being from the Bengals, and said Cincinnati was about to pick him. Sanu and those in his draft party exploded in excitement, and agent Mike McCartney even tweeted that Sanu was a Bengal. Then Cincinnati pick Zeitler.
"This is a great kid, I guarantee you, and someone played a cruel joke on him,'' McCartney told me. "It is unreal that someone would do that, but it happened.'' Sanu told McCartney after the draft not to worry about him, he'd be fine, and some team will draft him and get a good player. McCartney's right. Sanu must be a good kid, to respond to something that hurtful with an attitude so hopeful.

    That's terrible.

    Worst Case Scenario

What is your worst case scenario for our draft picks today?

For me, I think taking Jerel Worthy/Brock Osweiler at 36/57 like several media people keep throwing out there would be a huge disaster.

Worthy has a lot of bust potential. I never like to see the term "low-motor" thrown around when talking about defensive lineman. The fact that he disappears from games for quarters at a time is troubling. I don't really care for any of the defensive tackles in this draft, and drafting one just to say you drafted a DT would be a big mistake.

I don't have anything against Osweiler at all, just don't want him in the 2nd round (or 3rd, or 4th). We need impact players who can play right away and can help us win a Superbowl with Peyton Manning, and Osweiler is the opposite of that.

Players that I would be down with drafting in round 2 (in no order):

    Lamar Miller
    Janoris Jenkins
    Stephen Hill
    Courtney Upshaw
    Peter Konz
    Lavonte David
    Cordy Glenn
    Trumaine Johnson
    Alshon Jeffery
    Zach Brown
    Josh Robinson
    Vinny Curry
    Mychael Kendricks

Worthy would be a much better pick than Still or Thompson at 36. Osweiller would be iffy, I wouldn't be happy, wouldn't be mad.

I say Devon Still - Kirk Cousins

Any QB other than Brock and I will be furious. We don't need a QB, but at least Osweiler has a bunch of potential. The rest of the QBs are just so average...

Hate to say it, but you may wanna get used to the idea of us taking those two you mentioned tonight. There's a good chance of it happening.

    Based on what, media predictions?

It completely goes against the draft strategy of getting "impact players," something Elway stressed a ton. What is Brock Osweiler's impact on our team for the next 3 years? You can at least make an argument for Worthy because he'll play as a rookie, although his tangible impact might be small considering it takes DT's a few years to develop. But an Osweiler pick would be inexcusable.
