    I Love October! (Oh Oh...This Guy's Back)

I looked out the window this morning......beautiful tree full of bright yellow leaves, enhanced by the sunlight. Soooo pretty!!!!

I do have a better feel for September, but I love October as well. Here's why:

    - Beautiful colours everywhere, while the leaves stay on the trees (there's a fine line around here, but I suspect most of them will be "above ground" for a few more weeks)
    - There's a certain freshness in the air that accentuates the autumn flavour. It sometimes includes the hint of smoke from far away fires, those of the planned variety of course
    - NFL is hitting stride, and normally NHL would be too.....unless of course terms like "lockout" are being thrown around (shame on them!)
    - Baseball gets really interesting!! I don't watch it as much as I used to, but the end of the season always creates some buzz and the memories of World Series as far back as I can remember
    - A little autumn yardwork can be medicinal.....raking, clearing the garden, and all that easy-paced stuff.
    - Our Canadian Thanksgiving, usually spent with family, and a great meal.....right up there with the tastiest holiday gatherings!
    - And though our kids are far from being kids....it's still fun handing out goodies for Halloween, along with taking in various "spooky" activities
    - Usually the last month here before the snow flies.....although there is always a chance. In fact, one year when the kids were young, Halloween was a night of difficult walking through a big snow pile and some nasty winter winds (but they got their treats)!!
    - I love October, because it is one of the many months I love........

It's a strange football month for us.....I know that cause I was seriously considering coming to Denver in October for a game. Only one is against New Orleans.....October 28th.

October: time to try new beers and brace for the long winter!

It is the time of the year we make our last preparations for the winter:

-do you have enough wood logs to make it thru winter ?
-did ya get all your fruits and veggies and other stuuf you like for all those peserved goodies ?
-did ya flush the oil and fill up the battery of your snow plower ?
-how many bottles of beer/wine did you stash for when you get back home and dont feel like going out ?
-made the 'I'm renovating this' this winter list ?
-cleaned up the garage so you can hide there to light up a cigar ?

So what you're saying is that October is winterizing month........sad but true in these parts. Climate change hasn't shifted things quickly (enough) I guess.....

I like the cold weather. And its actually been super mild here in Denver so far. I think it was in the 80s or 70s yesterday during the game

This is by far my favorite time of year. The heat is broken, allergies are gone, football is in full swing and baseball is almost over. I love cold weather clothes too.

Too bad about my other favorite thing which is hockey season starting

Also an amazing time for video game releases and TV shows.

Well.....some of October's splendour just took a coffee break. Those beautiful yellow/orange/red leaves on our trees are starting to find the ground, thanks but no thanks to some 85 km (over 50 mph) winds yesterday......and some colder weather blowing in today. Let the raking begin in earnest!!!

The good news......even if we get a wee bit of snow, the long range isn't too scary.....just yet!
