Been meaning to watch it, I'll try to start season 1 today. It looks interesting and good, just never catch it when it's on, and I don't really watch much TV. So I try catching it online.

Second season picked up where the first season left off. Still historically accurate and dramatically intense; an awesome series and big success for the HC.

I hate what the main character's choices in life are. He's doing a lot of damage to his son and wife.

Thank you to my grandfather jetrazor for being a veteran of the armed forces!

Lagertha divorced Ragnar, something Xian women in the Middle Ages couldn't do. Maybe Athelstan will help Ragnar short of conversion. But, if the series stays true to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Ragnar has a date with some snakes.

So, is this story based on old literature, or is it based on actual events?

Both. Ragnar Lothbrok was a Ninth Century Viking whose deeds are recounted in The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as well as in Norse literature.

In history, Ragnar was captured in Northumbria (one of the seven Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms), and put to death by King Aella by throwing him into a pit of snakes. The 1958 movie The Vikings takes license by having Ragnar (Ernest Borgnine) thrown into a pit of wolves.

As he was dying, Ragnar said, according to the chronicle, "How the piglets would grunt if they knew the plight of the boar.", or something to that effect. It was a reference to his sons Ivar the Boneless, Bjorn Ironside et al. who invaded and conquered Northumbria, the first Anglo-Saxon Kingdom to fall to the Vikings whom the English called Danes.

That was The Great Heathen Host of 865. It touched off the almost complete conquest of England by the Vikings. The Kingdom of Wessex, led by Alfred the Great, held out and led a reconquest of the English kingdoms not completed until the reign of Edgar the Peaceable in the late Tenth Century.

As a History Channel project, they are doing a good job of the narrative and its visual presentation.

I really really want to check this show out.

But I missed season one. It isn't on demand. So I'm not sure where to find it. Not really interested in buying season one if that's even an option.

The Finale of Season Two was absolutely awesome!

I can hardly wait for Season Three next year. This is my favorite TV series.

the second season was better than the first IMO

very good show, cant wait for season 3!

my only gripe is i wish this was a showtime or HBO series, just doesn't seem raw or graphic enough for whats going on. it should be more like spartacus it terms of vulgarity, plus i want to see Lagertha naked
