    Willis McGahee Released

Just got it on my team Stream App.

Well, that didn’t go as planned for Willis McGahee. It was just yesterday that McGahee was taking snaps during the teams minicamp drills and claiming that he believed he would be the starting when the season opened on September 5, but my how times changed. On Thursday morning, the team announced that they would be releasing the veteran running back, which really comes as no surprise after the team drafted former Wisconsin rusher Montee Ball to become the featured back.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the report:

It could be rough for the injury plagued 32 year old to find a job before training camp, so any hopes he has of becoming a starting running back have to be put on hold.

Of course, there is also the possibility that McGahee may not have much left in the tank and teams will pass over him in favor of a much younger option with less mileage — much like the direction the Broncos went.

McGahee had a very impressive career when he was healthy, but those times seemed few and far between.

Appreciate what you did for the Broncos, and much luck in the future Willis.

They must also really believe in Ball and his work ethic. I can see why they wouldn't want to split the reps 3 or 4 ways. The young guys need to develop, and Moreno can just plug and go.

KM did really well learning the playbook and getting the audibles down last year. I hope he gets carries this year.

There are four backs still on the roster that know the system fairly well.

Willis was a class act here and I appreciate everything he did, especially during the 2011 playoff run. I can't say that I'm too sad to see him go. It got to a point where my butthole puckered everytime he touched the ball.

    Hooray, beer!
