Official Game Day Thread: Postseason: 2014 Division Round: Chargers vs Broncos

Well my fellow Bronco fans... here we stand (again)

This is the third year we stand here at the Division round. 2 years ago we got buzzsawed by NE.
Last year we had our hearts broken by some bad defensive play and Fox's conservatism vs the Ravens at our own home stadium.

Now we face the Chargers for the first time in post season history. The same Bolts who defeated us a few weeks backs. The Chargers would not even be in the playoffs if not for a missed KC field goal and a missed call by the refs on the Chargers lineup on that same play.

All week we have listed to the analyst talk about the pressure on this for Manning and the Broncos and how hot the Chargers are. Ok a few things to those pundits. The Chargers had Denver on a short week after we had played a grueling part of our schedule and we were flat across the board, but still had a chance in that game except for a late INT. The Chargers almost loss to KC's back up. The WIld Card win was against Cincy a team that has not won a playoff game in 23 years, Andy Dalton threw 3 Ints for the second week in a row. The diff is that the Bengals could not overcome it.

We split the season with the Chargers, the combined score of those games Denver 48-47 Chargers.

In the first game Denver was up 28-6 halfway in the 3rd quarter on the way to our win in SD.
Denver went 3 for 8 on 3rd down the Chargers went 7/16
We had the ball about 22 minutes the Chargers 38.

In the second game the Chargers took a 21-10 lead. We closed the gap in the 4th but could not pull out the win.
We went 2-9 on 3rd down they went 6 for 12.
We had the ball about 21 minute the Chargers 29.

Chargers game plan is simple. Ground and pound, they have been averaged 177 on the ground the last few weeks. Convert 3rd downs as needed and win the time of possession. They will throw when they have two, Rivers led the league in completion percentage. They have a good offense line that has opened the running lanes. They do not respect our run D. We need to get them off the field which will help our time of possession. When we have the ball we need to do something with it. They will limit the number of possesions. Mike McCoy knows to beat Peyton you keep him off the field.

Yes Peyton in 9-11 in the playoffs, 8 of those losses were in Manning opening round of the playoffs. twice vs in the Championship and once in the Superbowl. Two of his opening losses were vs Rivers and the Chargers.

Denver has not been to the AFC Championship since 2005 the Chargers since 2007. In the series record Denver is 58-49-1 VS the Chargers (36-17-1 at home)

All that being said, we Peyton Freaking Manning on the Field, Wes Welker who missed the last few weeks is back. We have a great group of receivers and Ball has come on late to help out Moreno in the running game. We have Holliday and Prater on special teams. Yes Holliday has been shaky at time but he did score two TDs in last years division game. If Del Rio and FOX get the D playing like they can we have a good chance. Lets face it we don't want to see a Rivers / Brady-Luck match up next week. We want another game in Mile High. This team remembers what happened last year and needs to make sure history does not repeat. We broke the points record, the passing yards record and the TDs in a year mark. Now lets break San Diegos freaking heart.
I'm sure many of you would agree with Ron Burgundy's famous call of, "Go (blank) yourself San Diego."

I keep having flashbacks of the team that lost to the Jags and Won the Superbowl the next year. In place of Elway we have Manning, let's hope we can duplicate those results.

Please follow the Code of Conduct, watch what you post and how you respond. Report any violations to the MODS. Let's hope for a game where we come out healthy with the "W" I know if we lose all hell will break loose here, so please be mindful of those same mods who try to keep order around here. Step away from the screen if you need to. Better yet let's Win and do this again next week. I'm not ready for the off-season yet!

Denver better come out angry with a chip on their shoulder!

Its almost time, no more excuses for Manning or John Fox, Denver better come out angry, disciplined and never look back. I am expecting a massive blowout. Mannings legacy is on the line

Emphasis on discipline though. SD doesn't really worry me a whole lot though. Knowshon and Montee need to step up and get a running game going and Shaun Phillips and Malik need to get the pressure dialed up. If we do those two things and have no turnovers we should wrap this up.

They better come out angry because San Diego is playing with house money and has nothing to lose and they will play like it. If Denver tries to go conservative or play safe they will find themselves in a bad position.

Well we need to be physical and play with intensity but can't get caught being undisciplined and missing assignments because the emotion. With WW held out a bit mostly because of allowing plays from not being disciplined I don't think we'll have to worry too much about that though.

when we lost, they ran it 44 plays and had it for 38 minutes. 40 runs against the Bungles. thats the key. If Manning only gets 8 possessions, its a tossup. Career defining year for Manning, he has to prove his greatness...
