Maybe Sam isn't as good as people made him out to be. That should be the first assumption that is made.

It's certainly possible that the potential distraction is a factor but I think it's unfair to claim it's the reason when Jeff Fisher made it clear that there was no distraction. Other teams can also find a way to make it not be a distraction.

in normal conditions, there is no way the reigning DPOY in the SEC - with 11 tackles and 3 sacks in preseason - does not even get a job on a practice squad.

People simply have to realize that it is HARD to make an NFL team! You might do absolutely stellar, but either the team already has good players in his position (which is the case now), the player doesn't fit their scheme, etc.
From the few highlights I have seen, I am sure he will find the right place position, probably sooner than later.

There have been Heisman winners who didn't get that much.

Which Heisman winner was not at least on a practice squad as a rookie?

In all fairness, Matt Leinart shouldn't be any where near an NFL team

I agree with this. I would of thought that as the Rams drafted him knowing the potential media attention it wouldn't have been a factor, but there is no way he wouldn't even be on a PS with his talent and what he showed in the pre-season unless there were non-footballing reasons/distractions

12 players had 2.5 or more sacks this preseason. 10 are on 53-man rosters. One on practice squad. And last, Michael Sam, hasn't found work.

I just don't understand why the Rams, a team with a stupid amount of D-Line talent, even drafted him.

It seems pretty apparent any other team in the league would have kept him on the roster/PS given his production. The media, an entity looking for discrimination in their stories on him, seems to be putting the biggest nail in his career.

There was a tweet by a player saying blame ESPN. Michael Sam, the player deserves to be on a 53 man roster and suit up on Sunday's. But the media is so focused on his personal life and making a big deal out of his personal life...teams don't need it.

He'd be good talent for any 4-3 team, in which there is 14 teams that run the 4-3 defense. I personally would like the Packers to sign him, could use some depth at that position.

This, like Chris Long said, "Everybody is over it except for ESPN." Of course, even CNN and other outlets have hammered it on the air.

Definitely should have a spot somewhere.

Considering all the players Dallas lost, this is not a bad option to him. He could have a shot at making the game day roster.

    - Michael Sam set to join the Dallas Cowboys -

"Michael Sam is about to be a Dallas Cowboy.

Outsports has confirmed the Cowboys are bringing Sam to Dallas for a physical and have the intention of signing him to their practice squad. That would make him the first openly gay member of a regular-season team.

Adam Schefter and Ian Rapaport have also confirmed the news." ...

The Cowboys, by the way, were Sam's favorite team while he was growing up in Texas.

The Cowboys happen to play the St. Louis Rams in week 3.

Last year the Cowboys had the third-worst pass defense and the worst overall defense in the NFL, allowing over 415 yards per game. They recorded only 34 sacks on the season, and quarterbacks racked up a 96.0 average passer rating against them.

These are not good numbers. Sam can have an immediate impact on the team in the coming weeks." ...

Wow, the Cowboys actually did something worthwhile for once.
