Official: Wade Phillips is the new defensive coordinator

    Per Rotoworld:

ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson is "hearing" ex-Texans DC Wade Phillips "could get play" from the Raiders and Broncos for their defensive-coordinator vacancies.

Phillips, 67, was in the mix for the Redskins' DC job, but was passed over in favor of Joe Barry. Phillips coordinated new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak's defenses in Houston for three seasons from 2011-2013, leading them to three top-10 finishes in total defense. Phillips would be an excellent hire for either team.

Mod edit: Per twitter, Wade Phillips is officially the new defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos

posted earlier that Kubiak might bring back the 3-4. Wade would be a good person to do just that.

Would be a great hire. Von and ware in the 34 will be great. Jackson and Wolfe are prototype 34 ends. Phillips typically doesn't use a giant nt so this may be a sign knighton will leave. I'm interested to see what he can do with sly and austin

All I remember about Wade is the 48-16 drubbing by the Raiders where batteries were thrown in Mile High at the Broncos........and that my dad sang his TV show theme song.

He either went to AZ or is expected to go there.

The first year of Wade Philips' defenses, non-playoff teams make the playoffs and playoff teams go a little more further, that has been the trend.

Plus, he plays an aggressive 1-gap 3-4 that not many can coach, so the gap responsibilities may not be dramatically different while transitioning from the 4-3. He does bring 5 or more guys more often than not. He can give up big plays against elite OLs but then, that aggressiveness also results in LOTs of defensive scoring.

It will be a good hire if Wade Philips is hired, IMO.

    Good lord if we had

    HC Kubiak
    OC Dennison
    DC Wade

With all this talent...Manning or no Manning we won't miss a step IMO.

agreed...and then throw in the position coaches staying such as Studesville...the coaching staff looks pretty good.

I wonder if Wade would come back here, or if he's still holding on to any hard feelings.
