It was bound to happen sometime.

With the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos in need of a starting quarterback and former Denver signal-caller Tim Tebow in need of an NFL job, it was only a matter of time before fans in the Mile High City started a petition to bring Tebow back.

The online petition, which was started on Change.org two months ago just before Peyton Manning's official retirement, had just less than 3,500 supporters as of early Thursday afternoon.

Tebow hasn't played a down in the NFL since 2012 but was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles last season before being cut in September. He was soon picked up as an analyst with ESPN on the SEC Network.

"Coach Gary Kubiak's offense would thrive with Tebow under center," the petition reads. "He and the legendary John Elway can make this happen. We dont (sic) need a subpar throwaway from some other team, we need an original Bronco who has the fire, desire, and love of the game to play as a Bronco again! As a bonus the Bronco fans would be ecstatic! He just wins, we all know this! #TebowTime"

The 28-year-old Tebow had his best season with the Broncos in 2011 (after fans demanded the team give him the starting job), leading an underdog 8-8 team to the playoffs and upsetting the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round.

Since then, he's played in just 12 games (with the New York Jets in 2012) and was cut by both the New England Patriots (2013) and Eagles after training camp stints.

The Broncos, meanwhile, have a hole at the quarterback spot after Manning retired and Brock Osweiler signed with the Houston Texans. Denver signed Mark Sanchez and has flirted with trading for Colin Kaepernick but is anything but settled at the quarterback spot.

It's unlikely they'll give Tebow another shot, but that's not stopping a rabid fan base from wanting to relive the glory days of #TebowTime.

As far as I'm concerned, the headlines should be reading "TEBOW FANS petition for TebowTime". He is a great person, and seems to have found some good work as an SEC analyst. But his Bronco days are in the past, and they need to stay there.

Yeah, no true diehard self respecting Broncos fan who has been around prior to Tebow getting drafted honestly thinks we should bring him back.
Fire Rick Dennison - This Signature will stay until the worst playcaller in the NFL is gone.

That ship has sailed. And I know this site doesn't represent the entire fan base but I haven't seen a single serious comment about bringing him back. These might be die hard tebow fans in denial clinging on to the very last hope of him playing.

I mean part of me is curious what Kubiak could do with him, but the rest of me realized he's had so many shots at sticking and hasn't yet, stick with announcing you are never gonna be a QB.

That is the truth of it, no real Bronco fan wants Tim back as our QB he is terrible at the position good guy but not an NFL QB at all.

I think we need to have a "Bronco Inquisition" and root out all the Tebownites posing as Bronco fans, torture them as the witches they are and then ban them. Naturally, first course of action is to declare anyone a witch that has Tebow in their user name. Next, if they are still lingering around these boards declaring we should give Tebow another shot....obviously a witch and not a Bronco fan. And of course, finally, find a lake, throw them in it, if they float than they are made of wood, so they are a witch and we should burn them.

    Seems only logical to me.

This is such a ridiculous idea. And sadly it is reflecting on The Bronco fanbase.

Currently on a trip to Tampa. The local news had the draft comments and the petition as it's NFL coverage.

The chuckles as they reported the story revealed how silly a couple thousand fans can cause damage to a team image and perception.

Reminded me of how I reacted to some Pats fan reactions last week. That is how Broncos fans are being depicted with this QB fiasco and Tebow fanaticism.

I'd take him... if he agreed to play fullback.
    Anyone seen Jake Plummer?
