Avs sign Defenseman Ian Cole. Nice veteran presence in the Locker Room, and blue line defender. I can't help but wonder why we didn't keep Orpik. I imagine it was a Salary Cap issue.

Avs also sign Matt Calvert from Columbus. Replacement for Comeau.

Both signings are solid, and remind me of how the Broncos have approached FA and trades.

It was a nice win. Varalamov looked solid between the pipes after recovering from whatever the hell his injury was last season. Erik Johnson appears to have recovered from his fractured patella.

The Rantanen assist to MacKinnon was a thing of beauty. Matt Calvert appears to be a solid addition.

Marc Moser is terrible, and clueless. Having the NHL Package, I can see that I will be tuning in to the opponents play-by-play announcers, in the future. But, another pretty decent game by the Avs, with the one exception of Barberio running over the fragile Varlamov, knocking him out of the goal that allowed an easy goal for Philly. Great Penalty kills by the Avs against two of the top Penalty scoring teams in Philadelphia and Minnesota.

Pretty typical for some reason Colorado teams always get jipped in rankings when there playing well

Colorado teams have a big conditioning advantage early in the season. It's usually why you see Colorado Teams jump out to leads/start strong every year.

We should start a separate 2018 Avalanche Thread... Suppose I'll go do that now.
