Stadium Naming Rights Headed To The Denver Broncos

The naming rights contract for Mile High Stadium likely will land in the hands of the Denver Broncos.

Sports Authority plans to sell the naming-rights contract for the Denver football stadium to the reigning National Football League champions, according to filings made in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The bankrupt sporting goods retailer — which has shuttered its stores nationwide and liquidated its assets — had enlisted Hilco Streambank to market the naming rights contract Sports Authority assumed in 2011 for Mile High Stadium in Denver.

That move was contested by the Metropolitan Football Stadium District, the public entity that owns the stadium, as well as the Denver Broncos, which had a separate sponsorship agreement with the Englewood-based Sports Authority. In recent weeks, the Denver Broncos engaged in discussions with several current sponsors as well as potential partners about the stadium naming rights opportunity.

Hilco Streambank sent lures out to 200 potential buyers and landed interest from seven, according to court documents.

“Ultimately, however, the debtors did not receive a cash bid for the naming rights contract,” attorneys for Sports Authority wrote in a filing made late Tuesday.
Hilco Streambank, however, did receive an offer from the Denver Broncos, which was determined to be the “highest and best available bid,” officials said in the filing.

Under the agreement, the Broncos will assume the contract, including the obligation for the $3.6 million payment that came due Aug. 1.

Sports Authority, in its motion to assign the contract to the Broncos, said it plans to pay the Broncos $50,000. The Broncos are to release all claims against Sports Authority and withdraw its objection filed with the court, according to the filings.

Sounds like they found a group or business that is willing to buy it and they probably have the name agreed upon already. So they buy the contract and turn it over to whoever wants it, and we can stop hearing about this for a while. I hope.

I expect that will be a part of any deal that is made.

I'm holding out hope we can do a vote for the name if they don't get a deal done this year.

It will be magical: "welcome to Stadium McStadiumFace Stadium"

I just hope we do not see the stadium and area around it painted in another teams colors again

I never set foot in a SA Store again when they painted the stadium red

Maybe the new group will understand the effects of their decisions

PFT speculated that the reason the Broncos are keeping it as Sports Authority Field right now is because if they switched it to Mile High Stadium then there would be even more outrage when they sold the rights again. So I think the best anyone can hope for is Blank Stadium at Mile High.

Since it will never be just "Mile High Stadium" like the old days, this works for me.

....or maybe they bought it to keep it for themselves and not sell the name to the highest bidding corporation.

My company works very closely with the Broncos and I have heard we will be placing a bid on the naming rights once the Broncos get the contract back. If we win the bid its not going to sound crappy, and I can assure you Mile High stadium will remain in the name.

I propose a different stadium name for each regular season home game...

Week 1 - The Dab Is Dead Field at Mile High

Week 7 - Brocks A Baby Field at Mile High

Week 15 - Brady's House of Horrors at Mile High

Ill let someone else figure out stadium names for the other 5 home games
    Denver Broncos
    New York Yankees
    New York Knicks
    Colorado Avalanche
