And they still have money to burn, as cliche as it has become to call this team a dark horse contender, they really have become one. They are in a very similar spot as us.

All in all though, Campbell did choose us, he just didn't sign here because he was a puppet for his agent. His agent pulled the strings to make him sign in Jacksonville. He would've chose Arizona over all of them if they gave him a decent offer.
For clarification, he probably only saves $1.5 million by playing for a team with no state tax. State tax is 4.3% in Colorado, and the savings only applies to games played in Florida (he'd have to pay state tax for each away game he plays in a state that does have state income tax).

    4.3% x $60 million contract x 50% of games played at home = $1.29 million

In other words, he saves about $323,000 per year.

Missing on Campbell is still one of the biggest missteps by Elway this past offseason, IMO. Obviously having picked up O-line help would have been beneficial as well, but Campbell is wrecking people right now.

Campbell has 5.5 sacks and 1 FF so far this year. Currently 2nd place in sacks. If he was here, there is NO way you could double and triple Von the way teams have. Von would be destroying games with someone that dominant on the opposite side. Still frustrated we didn't pick this guy up. I think w CC, we could have a defense that was just as, if not more, dominant of 2015.
Isn't this a moot point. I don't think Campbell had any desire to sign with Denver; he was in with JAX all along. Maybe it was the bigger payday or maybe he just doesn't like playing/living in cold climates.

The fact that he has 10 sacks already makes me sick that we didnít just end up giving him more money.

Yeah, he would have been nice. To be fair though, our DE's are still pretty good. Gotsis and Harris are more than enough to be run stoppers. Last week was an anomaly.

He made the right move. Looking at how dominate Jax D now is unreal. 10 sacks today and he got two of them. I understand colts oline is terrible but that is still embrassuve

Calais is such an incredible leader. That's the leadership we were sorely lacking this year. This man is getting 15+ sacks this year AND is running around hyping up the O-Lineman, receivers, etc. He doesn't just talk to his unit. Such an awesome teammate. Just another reminder of how big of a whiff we made.

Unless he was gonna play o-line or QB he would have made zero difference on the outcome of this season. And a 16.5mill cap hit would guarantee very little improvements could be made in free agency to the offense.

As great as CC is, he would pretty much give us no cap flexibility this offseason.

Sure we'd probably have a couple more wins with him on the defense but would have no cap room to do anything. Either to get a QB or sign a TE, OL, defensive player, etc.

I've personally talked to him and I gave him crap for not coming home. He just felt like the jags were up and coming and likes Florida. He said Elway wouldn't step up and pay him even though it wasn't purely about the money. He is still a huge broncos fan. But it's about the family now.

I woulndt call it a huge whiff.

A huge whiff would have been had we signed him and he sucked. Or had we not even tried to pursue him.

We gave it a great shot and he decided to take more money and live in florida. Cant blame him. We gave Jax a run for their money but theyve been a bottom feeder with tons of cap room for a while. Hard to compete with that. Not a whiff. Just not enough on our end. Plus, that cap hit would really screw us long term.
    For now....
    1. Reuben Badass LB; 2. Joe Mixon RB; 3. Jake Butt TE; 3B Sid Jones DB; 4. Bucky Hoges TE; 6. Ryan Switzer WR. Trade for Sheldon Richardson.
