Baph, can we call him a medical bust yet??? Jason Verrett out for 18'

Jason Verrett's terrible injury luck struck again. This time before the season even started.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the Los Angeles Chargers cornerback suffered what is believed to be a torn Achilles during his conditioning test that will likely knock him out for the season, according to sources informed of the situation.

The Chargers reported to training camp Friday.

Verrett has played just five games the past two seasons due to knee injuries. The 27-year-old played just six games as a rookie before being shut down with a shoulder injury.

During his one healthy season, Verrett flashed the shutdown corner skills that made him the No. 25 overall pick in 2014. In 14 tilts in 2015, he compiled 42 tackles, 12 passes defended and three interceptions, and was selected for the Pro Bowl. The impressive campaign had some analysts believing Verrett could become the next great lockdown corner. Since then, injuries have destroyed that progress.

Verrett was set to enter the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.

The corner's injury casts a pall over an optimistic Chargers offseason. L.A. could have boasted one of the best secondaries in the NFL with Verrett, Casey Hayward, Desmond King, Trevor Williams, Adrian Philips and rookie safety Derwin James. Now the Chargers must press forward without a key piece.

Verrett's injury is another reminder of the Chargers' brutal injury luck. After losing tight end Hunter Henry this offseason, now they see their talented corner sidelined. The Chargers can't have nice things.

i feel bad for Verrett, i was looking forward to seeing him go one on one with Courtland Sutton for a jump ball in the end zone.

TC hasn't even started yet and the chargers have lost two very talented starters......still a better team than the broncos.

ive said these kinds of injuries are your only hope, congrats on your victory but it still wont be enough.

the chargers still have 3 very good corners to dominate your receivers, don't you worry!

the charges can still have one of the best secondaries even without verrett. but what you mean "brutal injury luck"? i thought the chargers get injured the same as everyone else?

all smack aside, i feel really bad for the dude. his time as a charger is over but his career could be over as well. such a shame because the kid really is a top 5 talent. hope he does somehow rebound with another team, just hope it isn't in the afc west.

Your injuries didnít stop us from winning the superbowl nor missing the post the last two seasons

Our lack of a adaquent starting qb and oliine issues however is the only thing that gave you an edge

    Despite splitting both seasons

Just like 2005-2011 the Chargers are an overhyped team that will underdeliver. Their "promise" was built on beating the dregs of the league last year, but they're not that good of a roster. And as long as Captain Garbage Stats is leading the charge they'll always underdeliver.

The only thing that will keep the Chargers from being the season's most disappointing team (considering the media is all over them again) is that the Rams won't be the Super Bowl contender so many assume.

literally everyone outside of this biased donko homer forum knows what's been going on with the chargers injuries 3 out of the last 4 years, most of you (especially arapaho) are delusional. the chargers have had the injury bug unlike any team between 20014 and 2016. they still had some injury issues last year as well but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary that most teams endure and it showed.

Best secondaries? Based on what? Shutting down non playoff QBs? Brady shredded your secondary. When your team is shutting down great QBs like Brady, Big Ben, and Cam in the postseason like the No Fly Zone or Drew Brees and Peyton like the Legion of Boom that is what the best secondaries do ..... shutdown the best QBs not Nate Peterman and Trevor Siemien ( Siemien only 1 out of 2 games lol &#128514
